Introduction
This morning we talked about the importance of prayer and what prayer was:
simply a conversation with God that builds everlasting faith and trust in Him.
a daily discipline depending on God as the source.
a channel to live life in dependence on God - the way God designed it from the beginning.
We also touched on the first parts of the “Lord’s Prayer”
“Our Father in heaven” (Loving Father)
“Hallowed be Your name” (Respect)
“Your Kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (dying to self)
If you will take notice the first half of the prayer focuses exclusively on God and his agenda as believers adore, worship, and submit to His will before they introduce their own personal petitions.
This is very important!
If we don’t recognize to who we are praying to, then we CAN’T have the faith we need for the next portion of the prayer, which is
“Give us this day our daily bread”
If we start off our prayers off on what we want and what we expect to happen then we make ourselves the:
Source
Creator
Controller of the World
The judge
The rule maker
And remember what we talked about this morning, we are not those things, although sometimes we think we are, our job is to recognize that God is all of those things and we are to experience life depending on Him! Trusting Him that His daily bread is sufficient for us.
Isn’t ironic that a few more verses down Jesus says:
Matthew 6:
“Therefore I tell you” This gets me tickled!
It’s like Jesus is saying “will you just listen to what i’m saying you!!
Matthew 6:25-
How many of you in here have ever told your children to do something but they do the opposite and can’t understand they why they got the results they got.
Then your next phrase to them is, What did i tell you to do.”
I can see Jesus doing the same to us everyday, when we start to worry about our life.
But what did I tell you!!!
Now He explains: Lets continue to read.
“O you of little faith” “Give us this day our daily bread” is the faith portion of this prayer.
What does bread do?
Someone tell me
It:
Satisfies
Fulfilling
Gives Energy
If Jesus is the “bread of life” does He not fulfill all of those voids?
In other words, BREAD brings life, Jesus brings life.
“Therefore take no thought” Here He goes again.
It’s like Jesus is saying, I’m going to say this again so i can make sure you understand.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” Did He not say the something in the Lord’s prayer?
“Your kingdom come”
Seek His Kingdom
Seek His righteousness
Seek His will for your life, when we do those things watch what happens next.
“All of these things shall be given to you”
You see how this all works together?
Once we recognize Him for who He is and seek His kingdom first our “daily bread” is already met.
Go back to what I said earlier, the first half of the prayer focuses exclusively on God and his agenda not ours.
If we focus on His agenda then “all of these things will be given to you.”
Like we talked about this morning, we have got to stop playing God.
Stop trying to control everything and every situation and remember what He said: “Therefore I tell you,” or in my own words to my kids “ but what did I say”
If we will listen and obey His Word, and to nights Word was: I will take care of your daily needs, your “daily bread” but your have to trust me stop playing God and give me and my kingdom the RESPECT it deserves FIRST!
Dale always makes a commitment to me or Kyle how that the bible is easy enough for a child to understand, let me prove this to you.
I’m about to sum this entire sermon up in a kids song.
Sing: Seek ye First the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you, whats the next word?
HALLELUJAH (praise word)
