Structure of the section.

We must depend on God’s Word to strengthen us in grief

Why must we depend on God’s Word to strengthen us in grief? The Psalmists gives us two functions of God’s Word that encourage dependence.

God’s Word is a source of life (v25-27)

Receiving life from God’s Word demands honesty (cf 1 Jn 1:8-9)
Receiving life from God’s Word demands study (cf Ps 1)

God’s Word is a source of joy (v29-32)

Receiving joy from God’s Word demands obedience (cf :1-5)
Receiving joy from God’s Word demands guidance (cf Job; Zecharaiah; Abraham)

God’s Word is our only hope in times of grief.
