6. THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE CHRISTIAN

I. THE PROMISE

“But ye shall receive power.…”
Before Christ ascended, He told the disciples to wait until they were filled with power ().

A. Power to worship—. This Spirit always helps us to pray ().

B. Power to witness—. Peter now is a new man.

C. Power to work—. Let the Spirit work through you.

II. THE PLAN

“… After the Holy Ghost is come upon you.…”

A. Plan—. Wait for the promise of .

B. Promise—. Christ promises that they would receive the Holy Spirit within a few days.

C. Purpose of the Holy Spirit

1. Convicts of sin—.

2. Confirms salvation—.

3. Comforts Christians—.

4. Controls Christian—.

D. Power—Power to do God’s work. Paul had this power when he spoke of doing all things through Christ ().

III. THE POWER

“… And ye shall be witnesses unto me.…”
Witness means to give proof of something.

A. Proof of His saving power—. Paul, the persecutor (), now meets with Christ (). From a persecutor to a preacher.

B. Proof of His sustaining power—. Nothing kept Paul from serving Christ. Look at his testimony at the end of his life (). The Holy Spirit helped him.

C. Proof of His satisfying power—. He is able to give us peace at all times.

D. Proof of His sanctifying power—. Only Christ can cleanse us from all sin (; ).

IV. THE PLACE

“… Both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

A. Jerusalem—hometown area. Spread the gospel.

B. Judea—home state. Spread the gospel to all in your state.

C. Samaria—the nation.

D. Uttermost parts—foreign missions.

Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creatures ().
