Created to create, blessed to bless, made beautiful to make beauty

God
Genesis 1:20–27 NIV
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day. And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

Filling in the outline

Coloring inside the lines
Reproducing, each according to its own kind
Not attraction each to its own kind
Not based on appearance
Root of racism
Even science would read this as not trying to mix different species rather than simply different cultures
This is based on function or gifting
And this is based on REPRODUCTION
You cannot help but reproduce people just like yourself
You cannot deny your own children
They share your DNA and they share the family culture you bring them up in.
While they may not get every crazy idea from you... they learn how to respond to those ideas and the world from watching you.
Ruling
The burden of ruling this world is that we are held responsible for its fate
We have to recognize that while all of creation is separated out into different categories, all those different groups of things interact and depend on each other to thrive.
Bees and trees pollinate and feed one another
Without this relationship fruit does not form, which feeds other animals (including us)
Every couple years, they come up with a different color moon that is supposed to signal the end of the world.
Scientists and farmers have been citing the disappearance of bees for a lot longer as a symbol of the end of food production and of civilization.
We are created in God's image, which does not mean that we are God, or that we are little gods
It means we stand in His place, acting as He would in this world.
Here Jesus is our great example
Part of what it means to be fully human and fully God is that by fully reflecting God's image in His life, Jesus demonstrated what it truly meant to be "fully human"
When we allow sin into our lives, we allow it to eat away at our humanity, making us less than human.
Do you live as God would live in this world?
Genesis 1:28–2:1 NIV
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
2 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

Matthew 28:16–20 NIV
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
You
What are you reproducing?
Not reproducing
Fear
reproducing sin
Stubbornness
Reproducing good
Passing your children on
Not just hoping your children surpass your goodness... making sure they do
Sending them on to new teachers
Dad knowing the limits of his ability to teach me.
We

One body, many parts

We raise up disciples together, as a team
We pay attention to the discipling work of each other
We offer and take those handoffs when we see opportunities among the families that others are discipling
We pass on the gifts that we have and add to the beautiful new creation that God is making before our eyes.
