INTRODUCTION

I want us to think about what it means to be wrong
To remember a time where we felt guilty
To go back to a time where we stood judged
To remember what our parents, our teachers, the principal said when they laid down the consequences
Most of the time, We deserved it
We deserved the fullness of those consequences
We deserved to pay the debt of our poor behavior
This feeling, of having to deal with consequences
Is the result of our sinful actions
It is the reality that we did something wrong and now we have to own up to the consequences
APART FROM JESUS THIS FEELING OR REALITY IS CALLED CONDEMNATION
This is how Sin, apart from Jesus makes us feel
Condemnation is the feeling of Hopeless Guilt
Condemnation is the reality of not having anyone to plead your case
Condemnation is that gut wrenched feeling when you desire something that you don’t deserve
GRACE
So, when it comes to Sin, what does the Bible say?
I want to set the foundation for what I believe the Lord wants us to takeaway today
But I want to set the foundation for what I believe the Lord wants us to takeaway today

HOW DOES THE BIBLE DEFINE OUR NATURE?

WHAT IS OUR NATURE?

IS CONDEMNATION A CHRISTIAN WORD? OR IS IT SOMETHING EVERYONE WRESTLES WITH?

WHEN DOES ONE FEEL CONDEMNED?
Romans 3:23 NKJV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 3:23 NKJV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
IF CONDEMNATION IS THE NATURAL BYPRODUCT OF SIN
IF CON
And all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God?
Then, if the Bible is correct
We all struggle with the consequences of Sin and the hunger for Grace
Levels the playing field
This puts all of us in the same category
This takes us from thinking that we are an exemption to the rule, to admitting that all of humanity is in need of redemption.

WHAT HAS GOD DONE ABOUT IT?

John 16:5–11 NKJV
5 “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
John 16:5-
First and foremost, The Cross does something about all of our shortcomings
The Solution, the Plan of God to disarm the consistency of sin
Was to go to the Cross as a blameless man
It wasn’t the law, the law almost did it.
Hebrews 9:22 NKJV
22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Hebrews 10:1 NKJV
1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect.
Hebrews 10:18–25 NKJV
18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. 19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
THIS IS WHAT THE CROSS HAS ENABLED US TO DO
Hebrewa 10:18-25
NOW, WE CAN GO TO HEAVEN
BECAUSE OF HIM WHO BECAME SIN FOR US, HIM WHO KNEW NO SIN, WE CAN BE MADE RIGHT WITH GOD
NOW, WE CAN GO TO HEAVEN
BUT WHAT ABOUT TODAY? WHAT ABOUT OUR STRUGGLES? WHAT ABOUT OUR GUILT?

Second to the Paying for our Spiritual Debt

Jesus went to the Cross for another reason
Look at JOHN 16:6
The Disciples were upset about Jesus’ departure
Jesus was their Leader
In their eyes, Jesus was the one who was going to set up the Kingdom here on earth
Jesus was their only hope
When everyone had departed
Jesus asks Peter
Are you going to leave too?
Peter responds:
Where will we go Lord, only you have the words of Life.
However, when Jesus began to speak of His departure
The Disciples were filled with Sorrow
They couldn’t handle this news
They were upset about the things Jesus was saying
But in Verse 7, Jesus clues them in on what He is doing
He says
IT IS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE THAT I GO AWAY
Jesus makes it clear
That His cross was beneficial to them
It not only paid the debt we should have paid
It gave them a gift that they did not deserve, GRACE
This makes Jesus absolutely unique in the spectrum of Theism.
HE ALSO SAID, "FOR IF I DO NOT GO AWAY...”
The Helper, The Parakletos will not come to you
However, If i depart, I will send Him to you
You would be surprised how many believers your age believe that the Cross was single purposed
But Biblically speaking, it was multifaceted
He didn’t just go to the cross so that you can go to Heaven
Hew went
Because we were sinners
Because Sin needed to be dealt with
Because Death needed to be defeated
Because Satan needed to be disarmed
Because we needed both a Savior and a Helper
After Immanuel
After showing the disciples what life is about
After going to The Cross
After departing from the Grave
After disarming Death, Sin, and the Devil
The Spirit of Immanuel is imparted at Pentecost
The Helper, the Intercessor, the Legal Advisor, The one who comes to our aid.
Was distributed to every believer on this earth in power
The Helper, the Intercessor, the Legal Advisor, The one who comes to our aid.
WHAT IS THE JOB OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?
The one who convicts of sin
Because we need to be reminded that we are in need of a Savior
Of Righteousness
Because Jesus left us with the greatest example of righteousness before He went to the Father
Of Judgement
Because every life will be held accountable
Including the ruler of this world
The Helper
The Teacher of All things
He Testifies of Jesus
PARA, EN, EPI
WHEN WE WERE WITHOUT HOPE
WHEN WE NEEDED A FATHER, A SAVIOR, AND A HELPER
THE FATHER
THE GOD OF THE BIBLE MET THAT ULTIMATE NEED
THE GOD OF THE BIBLE PUT ON DISPLAY HIS LOVE FOR US
NOT WHILE WE WERE GOOD
NOT WHILE WE WERE KILLING IT
BUT WHEN WE WERE AT WAR WITH HIM
IT WAS WHILE WE DESERVED CONSEQUENCES, THAT GOD EXTENDS A GIFT TO US
Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
This is the Gospel
That though we deserve death because of our sinful condition
God’s gift to us, through Jesus Christ, is eternal Life
When we deserved death
When we deserved punishment
When we deserved the paycheck of our sins,
God intervenes
But not just once
Not just to get us to heaven
The Bible says that Jesus is our intercessor
But not only that, check out why Jesus is so important in our endeavor to walk with Him
Hebrews 7:25 NKJV
25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 7:24–25 NKJV
24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
This means He is always pleading our case
He is always standing in the gap
His Blood is continuously victorious
Over our sin
Over our greatest enemy
Over our greatest fears

THIS TAKES AWAY THE CONDEMNATION FROM THE CONVICTION, PERMANENTLY

CONDEMNATION
What does the word condemned mean?
IF YOU ARE IN CHRIST JESUS
YOU SHOULD WELCOME CONVICTION,
CONVICTION IS: ELENCHO reprove; expose; convict
SO HOW SHOULD WE LIVE IN LIGHT OF THIS TRUTH?
Katadikazo
IF WE HAVE BEEN SAVED, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR OUR EVERY DAY LIVES?
HOW DO WE VIEW CONDEMNATION AND CONVICTION FROM A BIBLICAL POSTURE?
The Holy Spirit should be actively correcting us
reprove; expose; convict
LXGRCANLEX
LXGRCANLEX
A Greek-English Lexicon καταδῐκάζω

give judgement or sentence against a person, condemn

The Holy Spirit should be unhindered in its role of Helper
We don’t get that
We think we have to do this alone
HOW DO WE WRESTLE WITH THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN?
We think that God is not with us
Why?
Because maybe He is not in us?
If you feel condemned, its probably because you don’t have a Savior to plead your case
If you feel condemned, its probably because the Spirit is not within you
Here is the deal
Romans 8:1–2 NKJV
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
CONDEMNATION IS SILENCED BY JESUS
SATAN IS THE ACCUSER
SATAN IS THE ONE WHO LOVES TO BRING UP YOUR PAST
WHEN HE DOES, POINT TO THE CROSS
IT WAS THERE WHERE HE WAS SILENCED
IT WAS THERE WHERE NOT ONLY WAS YOUR DEBT PAID
BUT ALSO WHERE THE SPIRIT WAS USHERED IN
HOW DO WE PREVENT A CONTINUAL SINFUL LIFESTYLE?
