Key Verse:
Object Lesson: scooter
Adapted from “Uncommon Object Lessons and Discussion Starters”
By: Jim Burns
Display the scooter and ask for a volunteer to demonstrate how the scooter works.
Discuss what it take to ride a scooter successfully.
make the point that it takes two important things to be able to ride a scooter: (1) balance; and the ability to us one foot to propel the scooter.
Without good balance you would fall off and without using your foot to propel the scooter you would not go anywhere.
Without good balance you would fall off and without using your foot to propel the scooter you would not go anywhere.
Let’s read together:
In order to make our Christian lives work the way they are supposed to we need tow things: faith and works.
Without faith you works may be helpful to other people, but they won’t make you a Christian.
Without works, your faith will be sterile and you won’t grow in Christ or be a witness to others.
When we pair the two together: “faith and works” we find that our Christian lives begin to grow by leaps and bounds.
You begin to go places for God!

(Ride off on scooter)
James tells us in this passage that “faith by itself is dead.”
What do you think that means?
Why would works when also by itself be dead?
