Being a Successful Christian

BEING A SUCCESSFUL CHRISTIAN

1. BEING A SUCCESSFUL CHRISTIAN IS POSSIBLE

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
The devil likes powerless Christians, but he fears the successful Christian.

2. BEING A SUCCESSFUL CHRISTIAN IS PROMISED

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” ( ESV)
“For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.” ( ESV)
“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.” ( ESV)
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” ( ESV)
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” ( ESV)

3. BEING A SUCCESSFUL CHRISTIAN TAKES FAITH

“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” ( ESV)
1) The secret of victory is that the power of Christ is in every Christian. Victory is about trusting, not trying.
2) Success is the work of Jesus in us, not anything we do.
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” ( ESV)

4. BEING A SUCCESSFUL CHRISTIAN REQUIRES COMPLETE SURRENDER

1) To be a successful Christian means you have to surrender everything you have over to God.
“Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.” ( ESV)
2) ‘as those who have been brought from death to life’ – We need to assume our position in Christ, and live as resurrected Christians, prepared to go home.

5. BEING A SUCCESSFUL CHRISTIAN IS ALL ABOUT IDENTIFICATION

1) We need to identify ourselves with Christ’s death.
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” ( ESV)
2) We need to identify ourselves with Christ’s burial.
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” ( ESV)
3) We need to identify ourselves with Christ’s resurrection.
“For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.” ( ESV)
4) We need to identify ourselves with Christ’s present triumphant life.
“Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.” ( ESV)

6. BEING A SUCCESSFUL CHRISTIAN IS A CHOICE

“Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?” ( ESV)
