We need separations, boundaries, parameters in our lives
We need separations, boundaries, parameters in our lives
And we aren't born knowing what they are.
We need help learning them so we can live in a way that helps us grow and thrive.
If we don't learn them we are stuck trying to guess our way through life... which was not what God intends for us.

We have more responsibility than that.
It's not just about getting through life ourselves.
We are called to serve others and help our community thrive.

So, it’s a New year—and it is a year of decision for us here at 4thAvenue.
By now, I suspect you’ve heard something about our last Churchwide Conversation on Renewal. At that meeting, I reviewed our current financial state and our budget for 2017. We also talked about the facility issues that we face here at 4th. And so, we’ve been asked by the Bishop to enter in to a time of reflection, prayer, and discernment.
That all focuses on an important question for us—“Are we, the current congregation at 4th Avenue, able to accept and implement the deep changes that will be necessary if we are to become relevant to our surrounding community and effective in our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world? And if not, are we ready and willing to let go and place our assets and liabilities in the hands of the Kentucky Conference so that they may resurrect a new congregation to carry on the work of ministry in the downtown?”
This is a hard decision, because it would mean the closure of 4thAvenue’s worshipping congregation. The District and Conference would accept responsibility to help keep the Open Door going as well as the Dental Clinic. The Healing Place would still be welcome to come and have their classes here. But the worshipping congregation would close, and work would begin to create a new church that would be able to be for 2020 and beyond all that 4th Ave. was for the world of the 1950’s and beyond.
We want to grow together and encourage one another in our growth because we need each other.

Accountability is not just about making sure we don't do bad things, nor to make sure we are doing enough good things
Accountability is like marking our growth, like parent's marking their children's height... and celebrating it and encouraging it...
And sharing with the world around us that this is a faith family you can join and become a new creation in Christ!
