Application: Sometimes you have to come to the conclusion that grace is enough. You will never measure up and cannot do enough to be set free. The good news this morning is Grace is Enough.
Note:
Jesus had healed a Leper, He had Healed a Paralytic, and He had preached the Gospel to them. He then did something that was unimaginable, He asked a person who was detested by all. This person would have been a person who oppressed the people, he was seen as a thief, he would be disqualified as a judge, unable to be a witness, and in the eyes of the community and his family, A disgrace.
Mark 2:13–17 NKJV
13 Then He went out again by the sea; and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. 14 As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him. 15 Now it happened, as He was dining in Levi’s house, that many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him. 16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, “How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?” 17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
1. The World is watching how the church Responds to Sinners.
Mark 2:13–14 NKJV
13 Then He went out again by the sea; and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. 14 As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.
Mark 2:
Mark 2:1
Mark 2:12–14 NKJV
12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!” 13 Then He went out again by the sea; and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. 14 As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.
How do you extend Grace? Peter mentions we have escaped so look at this verse. Paul tells Timothy to extend Grace and dont get caught up in the world.
2 Peter 1:2 NKJV
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
2 Timothy 2:1 NKJV
1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 Tm
Note: We grow strong in grace when we understand God's unconditional forgiveness of us, then learn to unconditionally forgive others.
Look at the Word
Colossians 3:13 NKJV
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
Colossians 3:12 NKJV
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
When we don’t forgive- We Get Bitter
Hebrews 12:15 NKJV
15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;
Note: These religious leaders could not understand Grace. They were trying to become good and goodness is through the Blood of Jesus.
2. The World cannot understand How we are able to Forgive.
Mark 2:16 NKJV
16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, “How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?”
Mark 2:
NOte:
The religious leaders saw the tax collector as a outcast. The law was the utmost importance. The tax collector disgusts them.
I want you to think? How often do we only shout wrongs and sins and never forgiveness and Love.
The love of Christ compels you to share with sinners not disgusts.
The religious leaders :
They considered it disgraceful for one of their teachers to recline at table with those unversed in the Law, and Jesus’ disregard of time-honored custom offended them.
William L. Lane, The Gospel of Mark, The New International Commentary on the New Testament (Grand Rapids, MI: Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., 1974), 104.
YOU HAVE TO REALIZE WHAT YOU ONCE WHERE TO DO ABLE TO REACH OUT TO THOSE WHO ARE SOCIALLY SEEN AS UNCLEAN.
Romans 5:8 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Ephesians 2:8 NKJV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
Colossians 1:21–22 NKJV
21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—
Colossians 1:21–22 NKJV
21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—
Not only is the world watching and not only can they not understand Christ-like forgiveness, but.....
3. The World cannot Grasp that Christians was once lost.
Mark 2:17 NKJV
17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
I was sinking deep in sin,  Far from the peaceful shore, Very deeply stained within,   Sinking to rise no more; But the Master of the sea   Heard my despairing cry, From the waters lifted me,   Now safe am I.
Love lifted me! Love lifted me! When nothing else could help,   Love lifted me.
Note: This morning Grace is Enough. For you believers, remember where you once where so you don’t fall into the pit of self righteousness and become likened unto a Pharisee and Sadducee.
For those that may be lost, who is trying to get to a place where Jesus may forgive you....
He already has.... Grace is Enough
2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV
9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV
9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
