Sin’s Defeat
Joshua 7:1-
Seeing the both individual and corporate consequences for sin are difficult.
Sin’s defeat causes doubt and despair.
These are not people who did not know God, but quite the opposite.
These were His people, called by His name who had seen great and mighty things done by God.
Sin’s Discovery & Destruction
Joshua 7:10-
Joshua
Sin’s consequences are a far reaching and memorable hurt!
Victory in obedience
Joshya 8:1-2
If only Achan had waited.
The Lord does not want to keep blessing from us, but He does have a specific time and place to bless.
Lessons learned in defeat can also lead to victory.
Lessons learned in the midst of my sin can cause me great help in the future.
Lesson of disobedience is future obedience.
This is a great lesson for us in our lives with the Lord, but also as parents.
First time disobedience should be dealt with.
Conclusion
A church and it’s individuals all suffer with different sin.
As our church
To write new chapters to a long story.
It is a glorious thing for God to turn around the unfolding story of a congregation and write an excellent continuation rather than a dishonorable ending.
Every local church has its heritage, with its specific heroes and glorious moments.
How tragic if that story takes a turn for the worse permanently, never to recover.
But how marvelous when God adds some chapters that no one could have forseen—a satisfying continuation to all that he’s done for decades (if not for centuries) in that local church.
