Jn 5:1-18. Tony van Drimmelen. Christians partner with God.  Too quickly we think that doing so will improve and benefit our lives.  Jesus shatters that belief when He heals the man at the pool.  He is not going to partner with this man and help him into the water, instead Jesus reveals Himself as this man’s complete salvation.  Physically the man is healed but we don’t know whether he was healed spiritually.  The man’s physical healing incites anger among the religious leaders and an argument about who Jesus is.  They accuse Jesus of working on the Sabbath.  In reply Jesus claims to be on about his Father’s work and in doing so He addresses the spiritual implications of what has happened.  We miss out on so much of what God has done for us in Jesus Christ if we are only partnering with God.  The faith that saves sees the real work of Jesus finished on the cross.  That is the spiritual healing we all need to guarantee us eternal life.
