Reigning Heavyweight Champion (Foreman) vs a previous heavyweight champion
it was THE RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE (picture)
Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman
The much anticipated, year in the making, greatest fight of all time!
Ali dominated early
then he went into defensive mode
This is the start of rope-a-dope strategy (picture)
Foreman got tired after 8 rounds of POUNDING on Ali
Then, in the 8th round, Ali saw his window...
A quick combo to the head and the exhausted Foreman was DOWN
He crawled to the ropes...
He tried… He gave it is all...
But he was down for the count…
The fight was over
His reign as heavyweight champion was over
All that he had worked for for the past year was over.
Ali, his third reign was just beginning.
He was now the Heavyweight Champion of the World!!!
This fight is often called the “greatest fight of all time”
The tiny, old, washed-up underdog won
Today we start a new series called VS
We will look at how their are multiple vantage points to EVERY decision and situation.
For instance, Muhammad Ali himself...
A fan would say..
Incredible Boxer
Greatest Ever
Political Activist
Stood up when no-one else would
A foe would say..
Coward
Brutal beast
This is the same case with anything. Multiple vantage points all seeming to have a viable claim at being truth.
Some are a little easier to tell which is really true...
Moving the table… it just jumped up at me...

This weeks topic is God Himself

However, the foundation of this lesson is that scripture is true.
What does the world say about the Judeo-Christian God?
GIVE THEM TIME TO ANSWER...
Mean
Hypocrite
Murderer
Sexist
Cold
Demanding
Narrow-Minded
But what does scripture say about the Judeo-Christian God?

Unchangeable

Psalm 102:25–27 ESV
Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end.
James 1:17 ESV
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
Malachi 3:6 ESV
“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.

Faithful

Malachi 3:3 ESV
He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the Lord.

Forgiving

Exodus 34:6–7 ESV
The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”

Omniscient

1 John 3:20 ESV
for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.

Love

Verses are very special, my parents actually read these at our wedding
1 John 3:20
1 John 4:7–19 ESV
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.
So, here we have the lists…
But, most of all,

GOD IS LOVE

This is the one that jumps out to me… why?
Due to that love I have:
Hope
purpose
am able to serve
direction
life
a future
peace
hope
purpose
I know you’re told so many different things about God.
I know you’re pulled in so many different directions...
But I can assure, this book is truth, and this book testifies to His Love for you.
