The Fear of the LORD is the beginning of Wisdom (; )

Explanation: The purpose of the Proverbs is set forth in the first verses of the Book. They are written that one might obtain wisdom and knowledge in righteousness and justice. Understanding the proverbs will make the simple wise and give more wisdom to those who are already wise. As with the rest of God’s Word, this book is meant to be read and understood, and to be transformative.
Argument: The key that will unlock the fountain of wisdom is stated to be “The Fear of the LORD.” In v. 7, this FEAR is declared to be the beginning of wisdom. (This declaration is repeated in and is also mentioned in )
Application: The Bible is not for the accumulation of knowledge concerning people, places, things, and supernatural events. The Bible is God’s revelation to mankind in order that we might be in right relationship with Him. Those who have wisdom understand this, so it becomes vitally important for us to gain wisdom, which then involves an understanding of what it means to Fear The LORD.

The Fear of the LORD can be understood and obtained by mankind ()

Explanation: After setting forth the importance of understanding The Fear of the LORD, Solomon declares that it is obtainable - God really desires for us to know Him. The search for wisdom, however, is not an easy task.
Illustrate: It is amazing how much treasure has been lost over time and is still waiting to be found. Several treasures have been uncovered, but they all have on thing in common - they are not in plain sight. When dealing with physical treasure it requires effort (and a lot of luck!).
Found: 1992 Value: Approximately $3.8 million
Having lost his hammer in a field, farmer Peter Whatling called a friend with a metal detector to help him find it. Instead, he found treasure. Inside the oak chest was a collection of silver spoons, gold jewelry, and coins, all dating back to the 4th or 5th century CE. Whatling called in help, and archaeologists managed to find all sorts of other treasures buried in the same field, including Roman ladles and serving bowls
Argument: The effort involved in pursuing an objective correlates to the motivation. If a person is convinced something is worth doing, he or she expends the effort. If not, they don’t. It’s really that simple.
Argument: The effort involved in pursuing an objective correlates to the motivation. If a person is convinced something is worth doing, he or she expends the effort. If not, they don’t. It’s really that simple.
Application: Determine where and what your priorities are. If you value knowing God more fully and walking in Wisdom, then you will expend the effort.
