Being Authentic means it is important that we understand what we are doing and why we are doing it.
The Authentic Believer and the Authentic Church are not wed to programs or methods but instead...
They searching for how to build a sense of urgency that compels the church to impact the lives of believers to restoration and to one more person to experience the joy of Salvation through Jesus Christ.
With that in mind, we must ask ...
What is Authentic Worship
The Question
John 4:19-20
Implied within this statement is a question of immense importance.
What is
The difference in people find expression in many areas of life.
Perhaps none are quite as diverse within the church as the experience of Worship.
What is Authentic Worship?
Authentic Worship is the proper response of the Authentic Christian as they focus upon who God is and who they are in relationship to Him.
The Issue
What is necessary to worship God?
Knowing God is the prerequisite to worshipping God.
Once you have a relationship with Christ, the more you want to know Him, and then, the more you know Him, the more you desire to experience Authentic Worship of Him.
The Answer
Truth = Aletheia = The unveiled reality
Jesus’ assertion that there are “true worshippers” means that there are also “false worshippers”.
Both in Jerusalem and in the mountain, people had built a “model” or “method” of what worship looked like.
Those models excluded all other options and made Worship about a formula instead of about giving honor to God.
Worship must include both our head and our hearts.
We must give glory to God through the surrender of our minds and our wills.
How I think and how I feel are secondary to complete surrender to His Majesty!
The Authority
I…Am He
This was HUGE! Jews and Samaritans had waited for centuries to hear what this peasant woman heard from the lips of the Son of God.
This is the only occasion of New Testament record other than His trial on which Jesus claimed to be the Christ.
Other times others like Peter asserted that claim for Him, but this is the first time Jesus did, and it was in relative to worship.
Imagine:
Imagine: You have been chosen to be honored by a group of people for some reason so they schedule an event.
They organize the event, plant each detail, pick out all of the speakers and other aspects so that when the event is over the organizers all feel good about the job they have done.
Everything is carefully choreographed to maximize their enjoyment and satisfaction.
As the event closes, the members of the group feel great satisfaction at a job well done because everything was exactly how they wanted it to turn out.
Who has been left out of this scenario?
YOU!
The Last Word in Authentic Worship belongs to Jesus!
