So, what did you hear?
like language, we recognize some and others are just foreign.

when you know what it means, in makes sense.
as for the Israelites,
the trumpet blow was a recognized sound to the Israelites. it was a way of communicating, and depending on what they heard, it caused them to respond. it was blown on different days and at different times.

they seemed to have an elaborate system to alert the people as to what was needed to happen.
the trumpets in those days did not have the valves on them to play different notes so it had to be long and short blasts.

they also used the trumpet for bringing the troops together for war - the story of Ehud, was a deliverer of Israel from the Moabites, and this text is right after he killed the Moabite king and came back to his people....
we find after this war they had peace in the land for 80 years.
this trumpet blast must have brought some serious consideration.

you know, there are some churches today that seem to shun instrument playing in their church but scripture shows us that God was praised by the playing of many different types of instruments and it is a gift for someone to be able to play them.
we are blessed here to have so many talented musicians.

Usually when something devastating happens in our country or world, people respond with questions, concerns, a desire to pray, and even a call to fast to seek answers.
this trumpet sound was certainly a serious time.

it signalled a call to repentance. to search the heart and check their relationship with God. to turn from any wicked ways that they may find in themselves.

Jesus was sounding the trumpet with His own voice.

We even see the voice of God being used metaphorically as a trumpet.
Revelation 1:10–13 and 4:1 indicate that the One “like a son of man” (Jesus) speaks with a voice that sounds like a trumpet.
This of course picks up on the fact that the Lord’s voice on Mount Sinai sounded like a trumpet (Ex 19–20).
It is one of the many OT depictions of YHWH that are applied to Jesus in Revelation.

What is something that calls us into fellowship, spiritual warfare, repentance, worship?
His very Voice!
His own Word!
and when we speak His Word it can be as a trumpet blast to others in our community.
How we are desperately needing to hear His voice blast out as a trumpet sound.
today, we have a world that is lost, needy, without direction towards God. the world needs to hear the voice of truth.....it needs to know who God is.
for you and I, we are those who make the claim to know God.
we read His Word by faith and praise His name in song.
Who better than to share the very words of God than the people of God, amen?
You and I are looking at another year ahead of us....2018.
who can we share the good news with this year?
our neighbor?
our town?
our world?
may the trumpet blast in our own hearts from the Lord, for repentance in a way that we stay confessional in our walk with our God and changing our direction in the way that He wants us to go
and then for the call to spiritual battle in this land, for the hearts and minds of the people of Andover.
We also need to remember what we talked about last week.

there is a final time coming for all that live.
we must see this everyday knowing the time is short and we are here for a reason.
let the trumpet sound ring in our ears along with the expectation of the future blast from God’s angels.
