2 Corinthians 5:16–17 CSB
From now on, then, we do not know anyone from a worldly perspective. Even if we have known Christ from a worldly perspective, yet now we no longer know him in this way. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!

This year, see the world from God’s perspective.

Illus: Every January 1 we seem to evaluate our lives.
If we have put on a few pounds the past year we make a resolution to eat right.
Perhalps you swear that THIS YEAR you will work out.
Maybe you want to quit smoking or stop drinking.
Perhaps you want to get control of your finances
Here is the truth, you can be skinny and not know God. You can get your finances together and be spiritually poor. You can even quit smoking or drinking only to replace it with another self destructive habit.
THis year instead of focusing your life on something that will just fall by the wayside, choose to allow God to change your life.
Spend time growing in His word. Allow God to change you. Spend time in prayer seeking the will of God. Choose to be heavenly minded instead of seeking the things of earth.
Illus: (CSB) 3 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
(CSB) 3 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

What does God’s perspective look like?

2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

2 Corinthians 5:16 CSB
From now on, then, we do not know anyone from a worldly perspective. Even if we have known Christ from a worldly perspective, yet now we no longer know him in this way.
Illus: Most of the times we invest our lives into pursuits that are either selfish or temporary.
God is willing to poor out the riches of heaven into our lives, but to often we simply aren’t looking for it.
FOllow me… imagine I wanted to give you $100 dollars. Upon revieving the quick cash, you drove to taco bell ordered 100 tacos ate them at one sitting.
At the end of your taco binge all you would have left is a bell ache and no money.
This is how we treat life… we spend the immense treasure of life on the equivalent of tacos.
Choosing to invest your life eternally is to see everything from God’s perspective. Relationship, finances, work… how can God use all that we have for His eternal purpose?
Illus: (CSB) 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength.

How Does God see you?

2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!

If you are saved, God sees you as a new creation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
Illus: This is what scripture means, when God sees you, he does not see your failures or your foolishness. He does not see your sin. He sees the perfect work of Christ.
God has given you more than just a fresh start. He has done more than just forgiven your sins. He has made you completely new.
If God has made us new, we shouldn't go back to the way we used to live, but instead we live the new life God has for us.
Illus: (CSB) 20 I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

If God has made you new, live in Christ.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
Illus: I have said that when God sees you, he sees you as a new creation. one of the most vivid illustrations the bible gives us is of a christian going back to their sin. It says that it is like a dog going to eat its own vomit.
What sins do you need to leave behind this year? What do you need to give to God?
Illus: (CSB) 6 What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply? 2 Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!

Your old life has been crucified with Jesus, leave it behind.

Illus: Tonight before we step into a new year, instead of building a list about your secondary resolutions… chooses to outline spiritual priorities for the new year.
Is there an area you need to grow in… reading the bible daily, praying with your family, serving others?
Is God calling you to serve in the church?
Are their sins in your life that need to God?
Illus:Philippians 3:12–14 (CSB) 12 Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, 14 I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.
