19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
These words that Jesus shares in he gives clear instructions of what He expects the church to be focusing on. What Jesus says in is an individual assignment and it is a local assembly assignment. It is the Great Commission and the responsibility of every Christian. We gave our life to Christ, we got saved and now we have a responsibility and assignment to fulfill the Great Commission that Christ has left on record for us to do. There are 4 verbs in the Great Commission.
The first verb is GO…..go means to move from one place or point to another. It means to move forward. That word Go means to lead out.
Go where… Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…
Jesus says Go…That was not a suggestion. He didn’t say if you want to, if you feel like it, if you have time, he just said Go. Your first responsibility of a Christian is to exercise obedience in ESV Jesus says, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. ….IF YOU LOVE HIM OBEY HIM. Go. says we are ambassadors for Christ. An ambassador is one who has been given authority to be present and represent him in this world. Go everywhere and talk about the goodness of God. Share your story about what God has done for you. You know God healed you, you know he delivered you, you know its God that’s keeping you in your right mind. Tell your story.
The second verb is make. Make what Make disciples. What is a disciple a true follower of Christ. A disciple has a spiritual relationship with God. The reason why we have a hard time producing disciples is because we can only reproduce what we are you cant produce what you are not. You cant tell me how to do it if you aint doing it yourself.
Discipleship takes a lot of love and care. It takes personal involvement. Its investing your life into someone else. Discipleship is one believer helping another believer to mature to the point that they can help another believer mature.
