Why do we celebrate Christmas?
Many people know that we are celebrating the birth of Christ
We all like to celebrate birth
But why is Jesus Christ’s birth so special(bishesh)?
How is it different from any other birth?
It is different because in this birth,
Our creator(shristikarta) became a part of his creation(shristi)
The God of the universe(brahmanda) became flesh(sharira)
5 KhrishT Yeshumaa jun man thiyo tyahi man timiharumaa pani ho-os;
6 Jasle Parameswarkai swarupmaa hunubhaekole Parameswar-sanga baraabari hunalaai luTako maal samjhanubhaena,
7 Ani maanis-jasto paarnubhayo, ra daasko rup dhaaran garera maanisharuko samaanataamaa hunubhayo;
8 Ani maanisjasto rupamaa prakaT bhaera uhaa’le aaphulaai namra tulyaaunubhayo ra mrityu-samma, a’, krusko mrityu-samma aagyaakaari hunubhayo.
Now we see why it is a special birth - different from others
But why is is celebrated?
Why is it good news(samachaar)?
To understand why this is good news
You first need to understand some bad news.
God’s creation was made perfect(uttam)
But the very first(pahilo) man chose(chunnu) to sin
And so has every man and woman since then
You, me, our fathers and mothers, neighbors, everyone
That sin broke their relationship with God
Just like our sin has broken our relationship with God
God’s primary attribute is his holiness
He hates sin - your sin, my sin, all sin - and sin must be punished
And that punishment is death
Sin must be punished
23 Kinaki paapko jyaala mrityu ho...
Here was the problem of mankind(janataa) - death
Physical(bautik) death in the grave(chihaan)
Spiritual death in a literal place called hell
That problem is the same for mankind today
T
God hates sin, but he also loves people!
His hatred of sin is like his love of mankind
16 Kinabhane Parameswarle samsaarlaai yasto prem garnubhayo, ki uhaa’le aaphno ek maatra janmaaieko putralaai dinubhayo - uhaa-maathi biswaas garne kohi pani nashTa nahos, tara usle ananta jiban paaos.
God had a plan for the salvation of mankind
Jesus Christ’s birth was the beginning of that plan’s fulfillment
(tyo yojanako paripurtiko suru thiyo)
Jesus’ birth was the showing of God’s love for sinners!
Only a perfect(uttam) man could take our punishment on himself
This was written about Jesus:
21 Kinaki uhaa’maa haami Parameswarkaa dhaarmiktaa banna paa-aau’ bhanera paapai najaannu-hunelaai Parameswarle haamraa nimti paap tulyaaunu-bhayo.
Jesus was that perfect(uttam) man - the only perfect, sinless(paap-bina) man - the God man
His birth was only the beginning - his death was also part of the plan
8 Tara Parameswarle haamitarpha aaphno prem yasaimaa prakaT harnuhunchha - haami paapi hu’daa-hudai KhrishT haamraa nimti marnubhayo.
He was born to die - for me, for you
To take my punishment, your punishment
And he did that on the cross of Calvary
This was written about Jesus (700)hundreds of years before his birth
4 Nischaya usle haamrai dukhaharu uThaaeko chha, ra haamrai shok-haru bokeko chha; Tarai pani haamile uslaai Parameswar-duaaraa hirkaaieko, piTieko ra kashTamaa paarieko Thaanyaau’.
5 Tara u taa haamrai aparaadh-harukaa nimti ghaayal bhaeko thiyo; Uslaai haamrai adharma-harukaa nimti bhotai-choT pareko thiyo; Haamrai shaantikaa nimti taaDanaa us-maathi paryo, ra uskaa koraarkaa choT-haru-duaaraa haami niko bhayaau.
6 Haami sabaile bheDaa-harule jhai’ baaTo biraaekaa chhaau; Haami harek aa-aaphno baato-tira laagekaa chhaau; Tara ParamPrabhule haami sabaiko adharma usai-maathi raakhi-dinubhaeko chha.
7 U thichomichomaa parto, ra uslaai kashTaa bhedaako paaThojhai u maarinakaa nimti lyaaiyo, ani jasari bheDaa aaphnaa un katraneharuko saamu gu’gaa rahanchha, tyasari nai usle pani aaphno mukh kholena.
He did that for me
He did that for you
This was the ultimate(antyamaa) gift:
23 Kinaki paapko jyaalaa mrityu ho; Tara Parameswarko anugrahako baradaan-chaahi’ haamraa Prabhu Yeshu KhhrishTmaa ananta jiban ho.
This precious gift is the reason we celebrate Christmas
This is why we rejoice(jay-jaykar garnu) in remembering the birth of Jesus Christ
Just like any gift,
This gift of God cannot be earned - only accepted
Only accepted
8 Kinaki timiharule biswaasduaaraa anugrahale mukti paaekaa chhaau; Ani yo timiharu aaphai-baaTako hoina, yo Parameswarko daan ho.
9 KaamharubaaTa hoina, natra taa kasaile ghamanDa garnechha.
It cannot be earned(kamaaina sakdaina)
Salvation is only through the work of Christ
Only accepted(keval grahan garinchha)
24 Saancho-saancho, ma timiharulaai bhandachhu, jasle mero bachan sunchha ra malaai paThaaunuhuemaathi biswaas garchha, usanga ananta jiban chha, ra u nyaayamaa parnechhaina, tara mrityubaaTa jibanmaa sarisakeko hunchha.
Turn from sin, darkness, and death and come to Christ in faith and repentance
Turn from sin, darkness, and death to Christ
Accept his gift of salvation today!
