A child is born and a son is given

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;

And the government will rest on His shoulders;

And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

For unto us a child is born.

This is significant because it demonstrates that Jesus is fully man.

He was born as a child, grew up, and died.

He perfectly identifies with everything we will face.

He lived it as a human being.

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

We can trust someone that has walked in our shoes better than someone that has never experienced what we have.

Jesus understands what you have been through, are going through, and will go through.

He had pain, heart ache, and difficulties in his life.

He also had joy, peace, an happiness.

A son will be given to us.

Who’s Son will be given and what does it matter?

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

God has given us his only Son Jesus Christ, so that we will have eternal life.

Government will rest on his shoulder

32 “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.

Jesus is on his throne right now.

He is in total control of everything that happens.

One day he will come and rid the world of sin, destruction, and death.

33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.

His name will be called Wonderful Counselor

wonderful adjs.

— of an extraordinary nature making it mysterious or difficult to comprehend.

counselor n. — someone who gives advice about problems.

This means that Jesus gives us extraordinary advice about our problems.

His name will be called Mighty God

God (Israelite) n. — the supernatural being who originated and rules over the universe; the object of ancient Israelite worship.

Jesus is God.

It does not say a god, bu God.

His name will be called Eternal Father.

Eternal is forever.

Father is the male parent.

Jesus will take care of us forever!

His name will be called Prince of Peace.

prince n. — a male member of a royal family other than the sovereign; especially the son of a sovereign.

peace n.

— harmonious relations and freedom from disputes; especially during the absence of war.

Jesus is a member of God’s royal family that brings peace between us and God.

There has been born for you a Savior!

Luke 2

The fact that God has given us a Savior is good news for all people.

This means Jesus can be anyone’s savior.

It doesn’t matter your race, social status, your education level, or how bad you are.

Jesus can save you from your sin and give you eternal life.

What does it mean to be saved?

We have all broken God’s law, because we have a spirit of sin.

We have inherited that from Adam.

For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.

Because we have sinned, our punishment is eternal death in the lake of fire.

And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

God gave us his Son Jesus to take away the punishment for our sin.

He paid the price by dying on a Roman cross bearing our sin punishment and was resurrected from the dead.

You and I can be saved only by confessing our sins and placing our faith in God’s son, Jesus Christ who died  and paid for our sins on the cross.

We must also surrender our life to His lordship… placing him in charge of every area of our life because we now belong to him.

Confession 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Faith 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and [a]that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Call on the name of the Lord this morning.

Ask him to forgive you and save you.

Place your faith and trust in him.

Give him your life this morning!
