It’s important, therefore, to have an answer.

Introduction:
Good morning Faith Community Church.
It is my great honor and joy to be here with you this Sunday morning.
I’ve never preached in front of this many people before.
I’m nervous.
If you’re not already, pray for me.
Can I just start by gushing over you as a church for a second?
Not to try and butter you up but because this may be my only chance to ever do so in this kind of setting and I want you to know something... my family and I came to Faith in January and we have been nothing but blessed by you since then.
Tim and Lori and the other elders and their wives have displayed such humility and faithfulness to us.
I knew this was going to be our home church when after the first service, I looked at Hannah and said, I want to be like Tim when I get older.
We’ve been so blessed to be here and to be a part of the Coleman’s small group, led by our fearless leader Mike, who is always first in line for dinner, making sure that the rest of us aren’t poisoned.
He really takes one for the team.
But seriously, our small group has loved us well, you have loved us well, and we thank God daily for you.
I have served in the military for over 10 years now.
I was an Active Duty medic in the Air Force for 8 years and then got out to pursue my MDiV here at Midwestern.
I went into the Reserves and in then in August, I crossed over from blue to green and became an Army Reserve Chaplain.
In the military everything we do is given to us as a mission.
And within a mission there are objectives, which when met help us to accomplish our mission successfully.
My mission today is to glorify God by preaching the Word to you and Tim gave me two objectives.

My first objective is to share with you about the missionary ministry to the military we are going into and then my second objective is to preach.

At the heart of our ministry to the military is discipleship and at the heart of biblical discipleship is Jesus.
The second objective Tim gave me this morning is to bring you a word from the Lord.
I mean, that’s why you’re here, right?
You’re not here to listen to me but rather to hear a word from the Lord.
Tim said that he will usually preach a sermon that is very practical for the New Year, something like the importance of reading your Bible.
As I prayed about what God would have me say, I couldn’t get away from discipleship.
So this morning, my purpose in preaching this passage of Scripture from , is to show you what it means for you to be a disciple of Jesus and what that means for those around you.
We’re going to look at 4 truths every disciple of Jesus knows.
We’ll see first that...and then I’m going to give you two very practical actions you can do starting today to grow as a disciple of Jesus.
