This morning Recap:
Treasure Christ
And to do that, we have to devalue everything else in our lives
Gaining Christ
Paul tells us here in verse 8 of Philippians chapter 3:
“For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.”
We’ve already seen in the earlier session that he counted everything as loss, considered it all as loss, devalued everything else, because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ.
Nothing was better, so in his book, he considered it all as worthless.
But we come to the second part of verse 8 here and he seems to be taking things a step further if you will.
Not only did he count those things as loss, but verse 8 opens up and tells us that because of Christ, he had actually suffered the loss of all things
Here’s what we need to realize today, that, contrary to some popular “Christian” belief, if you really say you treasure Christ, and really want to gain Christ.....as Paul tells us, you will suffer loss.
Paul lost his job, his comfort, his friends.....
But he also lost his belief system, it was completely changed.
He lost his idea of religion.
He lost and suffered a lot.
He also was imprisoned, beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, bitten by a snake, etc......
To gain Christ, you will suffer.
Does anyone in here workout, or lift weights?
First question: Why? Ha!
Just kidding, but seriously........
Think of it like this with me:
If you say you want to work out, that you like to work out, that’s all well and good.
Maybe you do, and that’s great.
So let’s say you “treasure” weight lifting.
It’s something you like, and you even consider other things not as important as this.
But, if anyone in hear has ever worked out, if you really want to see results, you have to do what?
You have to be super committed.
Like never miss a day
You also have eat better, and you have to cut out all of the crap you are used to eating
This is why I don’t work out
In order to gain, you have to lose, right?
