Introduction
Over the last few weeks we have been considering Who is Jesus Christ.
- We have considered this idea through the names that were given to Him in the book of Isaiah, specifically in the 9:6.
- We have seen Christ as the Wonderful Counselor and our own need for His wonderful counsel.
Remember that the word wonderful means something that is uncommon and often difficult to explain.
While counsel is that of distinguishing between things and advising in the proposal of a plan of action.
is a great example this.
I will instruct you and show you the way to go;
with my eye on you, I will give counsel.
-We looked at Jesus as Mighty God and His great authority over all things, because He is the creator of all things.
-We coupled this with the idea of our faith never being wasted when it is placed in such a Mighty God.

-We looked at Jesus as being the Eternal Father.
- Which is better described as the Father of eternity, considering once again that He is the creator of all things including time.
- We looked at this idea through the lens of what a good father is and how in Christ, we are loved for eternity.
- In we see the way God loves the world.
For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
-Last week we wrapped up the names given to Christ in with a look at Christ being the Prince of Peace.
He is the true source of all real peace that is given because He alone made peace.

Today we are going conclude our “Who is Jesus” series.
Today’s conclusion will center around the birth of the Messiah
- After all it is Christmas Eve and that is what we are to celebrate this time of year.

Second we will discuss the government being on His shoulders.
What I want you to take away from this sermon is that Jesus Christ was born for you.
Nevertheless, the gloom of the distressed land will not be like that of the former times when he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali. But in the future he will bring honor to the way of the sea, to the land east of the Jordan, and to Galilee of the nations.

on those living in the land of darkness.
You have enlarged the nation
and increased its joy.
The people have rejoiced before you
as they rejoice at harvest time
and as they rejoice when dividing spoils.
For you have shattered their oppressive yoke
and the rod on their shoulders,
the staff of their oppressor,
just as you did on the day of Midian.
For every trampling boot of battle
and the bloodied garments of war
will be burned as fuel for the fire.
For a child will be born for us,
a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
He will be named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
The dominion will be vast,
and its prosperity will never end.
He will reign on the throne of David
and over his kingdom,
to establish and sustain it
with justice and righteousness from now on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.

As mentioned through out this series, the book of Isaiah was written about 700 years before Christ was born.
This is one of those facts that really helped with believing in my early years as a Christian.
The book of Isaiah has multiple references to Christ or the Messiah which are one in the same.
In , , , and all of we find a few key prophecies.
We can also find prophecy in referring to the place in which the Messiah would be born.
Bethlehem Ephrathah,
you are small among the clans of Judah;
one will come from you
to be ruler over Israel for me.
His origin is from antiquity,
from ancient times.
Some of the prophecies that refer to His birth are and which we are familiar with.

a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
He will be named

Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.
This idea of being born of a virgin is key to what we believe.
We will discuss this further later in the sermon.
Immanuel means God with us.

Mary asked the angel, “How can this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?”
The angel replied to her: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
The importance of the Virgin birth.
It is foundational in our faith
It is this kind of birth that allows Christ to be the perfect sacrifice
If Jesus was born of a man then He would be no different then us.
We would have nothing to hope for.

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
What the law could not do since it was weakened by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering,
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ: Though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.
Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.
And most certainly, the mystery of godliness is great: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
This is how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you.” But she was deeply troubled by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be. Then the angel told her: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”
Mary asked the angel, “How can this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?”
The angel replied to her: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. “And consider your relative Elizabeth—even she has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called childless. For nothing will be impossible with God.”
“I am the Lord’s servant,” said Mary. “May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel left her.

He has done a mighty deed with his arm; he has scattered the proud because of the thoughts of their hearts; he has toppled the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly. He has satisfied the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty. These events could have taken place at any time in Jesus Christ’s first two years.
1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?
