The Joy Of Christmas

Luke 2:8–14 NKJV
8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!

Introduction:
The last two weeks we have heard some amazing messages from 2 amazing young men
1. Bro. Jaran Williams talked to us about “Why Mary” a reminder of how God can use anyone of us for his Glory!
2. Bro. Jamaal Kimble - talked to us about how “Every Dark Cloud Having a Silver Lining” and our blessing is in the breaking
Today I want to share with you about the Joy of Christmas
Joy = The happy state that results from knowing and serving God. Joy is the fruit of a right relation with God.
It is not something people can create by their own efforts.
The Bible distinguishes joy from pleasure.
The Greek word for pleasure is the word from which we get our word hedonism, the philosophy of self-centered pleasure-seeking.
Paul referred to false teachers as “lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God”
2 Timothy 3:4 NKJV
4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
Isaac Watts the author of the lyrics
Joy to The World
understood the Joy of Christmas
Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room, And Heaven and nature sing, And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.
Joy to the World, the Savior reigns! Let men their songs employ; (psalm 98)
Joy to the World, the Savior reigns! Let men their songs employ; (psalm 98)
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.
So, What is the "good news of great joy" for us here this morning?
First of all, it's the news that, through Jesus, God has entered into the daily life of this world and redeemed it.
news that, through Jesus, God has entered into the daily life of this world and
redeemed it.
God has saved the world and saved us.
How God has redeemed and saved us simply means that by God's grace All of our sins are forgiven and we've been given a meaning and purpose in life, defined as love.
Luke 2:8–9 AMP
8 And in that vicinity there were shepherds living [out under the open sky] in the field, watching [in shifts] over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord flashed and shone all about them, and they were terribly frightened.

a [glory of the Lord] The Shekinah, or glory, always symbolized God's presence
Exodus 24:16 NKJV
16 Now the glory of the Lord rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud.

1 Kings 8:10 NKJV
10 And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord,
Isaiah 6:1–3 NKJV
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”
Luke 2:10 NKJV
10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
).
Joy is:
The settled guarantee that God is in control of all the details of my life,
The quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright,
determined choice to praise God in every situation
The determined choice to praise God in every situation
Nehemiah 8:10 NLT
10 And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”
Psalm 16:11 NLT
11 You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.
Psalm 30:5 NKJV
5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.
John 16:24 NKJV
24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Following Christ puts you in a relationship to have present joys, and leads toward an eternal joy

The Christmas Shoes
I heard this song – the man said
One Christmas eve, there I stood in another line
Trying to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing 'round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes
His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say
He said to the clerk
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight
The man said the boy He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here"
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
24:16; ; ).

They counted penny's for what seemed like years then the Cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here." He searched his pockets frantically Then he turned and he looked at me and he said "Mama made Christmas good at our house though Most years she just did without, Tell me sir, What am I gonna do? Some how I gotta buy her these Christmas shoes."
So I laid the money down I just had to help him out And I'll never forget the look on his face when he said,
[Repeat Chorus]
"Mama's gonna look so great." I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love as he thanked me and ran out I knew that God had sent me that little boy to remind me what Christmas is all about I want her to look beautiful if mama meets Jesus tonight
I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love as he thanked me and ran out I knew that God had sent me that little boy to remind me what Christmas is all about
I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love
[Repeat Chorus with children]
As he thanked me and ran out
[Little girl:] I want her to look beautiful if mama meets Jesus tonight
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about
