Song Lyrics Commonly Gotten Wrong
Get Dressed Ye Married Gentlemen, Let Nothing Through This May!
Hark! the herald angles sing, Glory to the New York King.
Peach on earth and Then he Smiles; God and Sitters Reconciled.
Joyful oily nations, rise; join the triumph of Disguise, with the Jelly Toast proclaim, christ is born in bethlehem.
Joy to the world, the Lord has Gum!
Stabbing Fight, Hold the knife, ship her cake, at the site...
while shepherds washed their socks at night...
These are terrible, but lets be honest, some of these songs we don’t know all of the lyrics to, and even the ones we do know, we often don’t know what all the lyrics mean...
Noel
Round Yon Virgin
In eggchelsis deo
Emmanuel
Bible
This morning we are going to look at the meaning of one of these words
Emmanuel...
Immanuel shows up in Isaiah 7 and in Matthew 1
In my Bible it is spelled with an “I”
in the hymnal it is spelled with an “E”
God is with us — what does that even mean?
He’s just all around us man...
He’s with us every time someone does something good for someone else…thats God with us...
God is everything, he’s in the trees and the wind and the animals…He’s always with us
Lot’s of different ideas, what did God intend when His son was to be called Immanuel?
He came down among us (put on flesh)
Plane and simple, God put on flesh and dwelt among his people.
John 1:14
This is a BIG DEAL:
God is creator of everything
He’s that same God we talked about who does everything he says he will
He’s the same God we talked about who can handle hearing and knowing every little thing going on in the world
Yet, He humbled himself, put on flesh, and came down to be with man
Restoration (adam and eve)
But thats not all:
God used to walk among his people
God hasn’t walked with man since Adam and Eve
Sin has separated god and man for thousands of years
God, who loves us so much, makes the first step toward restoration, by coming down and walking with man once again.
But He didn’t stop there (cross)
God wanted more than just to walk with us through the life of Jesus
God wanted complete restoration between himself and man
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God would be able to be with us, completely restored in relationship, once again
Still not the end (Holy Spirit)
After Jesus died, we didn’t go back to the way things were.
often we treat Immanuel, like it is a thing of the past.
I hear people say that they wish Jesus were still alive so they could talk to Him.
But Jesus said:
Jesus knew he was confined by the flesh
imagine if he were still alive today...
the Holy Spirit is in you and with you all the time
The Holy Spirit is there to guide you in the truth
Immanuel was present tense with Jesus (God IS with us)
Immanuel is present tense with the Holy Spirit too (God IS with us)
