INTRO - In the fist century the world was unaware of that the event, the biggest sense creation, happened and that Jesus was born.
It’s easy for use to overlook that today as most people are somewhat aware of the birth of Jesus.
Yet, it seems that even while we know about this amazing event, somehow there doesn’t seem all that much interest in honoring it.
So, this morning we are looking at some important things about Jesus’ birth.
EST - Our text comes from a time just following Jesus’ birth.
ESS - I’ll be talking about God’s sovereign plan and humankind’ reaction to God’s promise to send Christ.
OSS - My goal today is to preach God’s Word knowing that God is at work in all of us.
TRANS - I will conclude this message this morning with an opportunity to respond.
It will be your opportunity to respond to the Spirit of God.
For now, let’s travel back to the time of the Bible just following the birth of Jesus.
What does it say?
What does it mean?
A Predicted Place
Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea
Now get this, the prophet Micah said this was going to happen.
It sure didn’t look like Jesus was going to be born there because Mary was in Nazareth, not Bethlehem.
And what do we see?
God made the greatest power on earth at that time, the Roman government, to take action which put Mary in Bethlehem where Jesus was born.
What God promises, will always be fulfilled
So, some 700 years earlier the prophet Micah said that Christ Jesus was going to be born.
That sure gave people time to explain away and try to say Micah was wrong.
Now, I say this because there are lots of people who question Jesus’ second coming.
You see, sadly there has always been unbeliever.
But with Christmas, each year we hope to see more come to hear and know the Bible is always true.
A Powerful Prince
In the days of Herod the king
Some question why God didn’t pick another time, a better time, for Jesus to be born.
You see, Herod was a truly evil king who at one time had babies 2 and younger in the area of Bethlehem killed to protect his own interests.
We often see God’s powerful work when there is great opposition to that work.
Really this should encourage all of us.
Have you ever felt like everything is against you and maybe even thought God Himself couldn’t fix things?
Well, remember that Christ was born in the day of wicked Herod.
Don’t give up, back up, surrender, or quite.
If Christ born in the day of Herod survived, God can get you through anything regardless of how difficult it may appear.
A Pious People
behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem
Special people came to worship Christ Jesus.
Two things:

The wise worship: the word here “wise men” can even be translated to “scientist.”
However, while we know these guys were smart, the context helps us to understand that they had wisdom and so we translate it as “wise men.”
So what of this pastor, you say?
Well, the Bible teaches wisdom lends to worshiping this baby born in a manger.
That means that you here today, to worship Jesus, are wise too; you have wisdom.

We don’t know a whole lot more about these wise men.
We don’t know how many, although most nativity scenes portray 3 possibly because of the 3 gifts offered to Jesus.
And, we don’t know from exactly where they came, just from the east and to Jerusalem.
Now, a few things to note from them in regard to worship.
There is effort in worshiping Jesus
most of us could be doing other things, instead we are hear to do the best thing, worship as God created us to do so.
In addition to effort, there is expense.
Travel in any age is costly.
Maybe not so much for us today, but still we had to put time into getting ready to be here, put a bit of gas in the car, or put our feet to the ground.
What is God saying to me today?
Does knowing that God always keeps his promise bring you peace?
How does knowing God is more powerful than anyone or anything make you feel knowing that He loves you?
The Bible says “the Word,” or Scripture is always doing something.
What is God saying to you today?
Will you respond?
