Agag is a picture of sin in our lives
Sin that we save
We protect
We keep with us
Sin that God told us to get rid of already
We see three things about Agag and sin in this passage

Sin is difficult to get rid of

1 Samuel 15:32 KJV 1900
Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
Agag thought that he was safe
He wasn’t killed immediately
It would be harder for them to kill him later
Most times he would be right
When we fail to deal with sin right away,
We often get used to it
We often forget about it
We never end up dealing with it
It becomes very difficult to get rid of that sin!
We remain trapped by that sin!
We become the prisoners/slaves of sin
John 8:34 KJV 1900
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
Acts 8:23 KJV 1900
For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
In bonds - chains
2 Timothy 2:26 KJV 1900
And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Trap - held captive
Animal in a trap
Someone can set him free, but...
Isaiah 61:1 KJV 1900
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; Because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Galatians 5:1 KJV 1900
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV 1900
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Sin keeps us locked up
Do we use this word to talk about walking out of an unlocked door? No!
Sin keeps us locked up
Sin keeps us in peril
It doesn’t want to let go
James 4:7 KJV 1900
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Resist!
Work at it now
Don’t wait

Sin is destructive

1 Samuel 15:33 KJV 1900
And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.
As...
He first talks about the destruction of Agag
Reminded people of who Agag was
Reminded people of what he was - a killer of their sons
We need to remember what sin is
A destroyer of lives
Many do not want to treat sin harshly
Do not want to attack it with their full strength
Do not want to cut off its head!
But only because we do not recognize how destructive sin is!
We are like the man in Proverbs 14:12
Proverbs 14:12 KJV 1900
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death.
It looks ok, but it leads to death!
We see this so many times in scripture
Romans 6:23 KJV 1900
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:12 KJV 1900
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Ezekiel 18:20 KJV 1900
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Sometimes death seems abstract
Far off
Not real
Not personal
Mark gives us some perspective:
Mark 9:43 KJV 1900
And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
How about that!
Cut off your hand if it causes you to sin
Pluck out your eyes
Sin is more destructive than chopping off a hand!
Your bleeding, painful stump of an arm is less destructive than sin
Before we will take the right steps to deal with sin
We need to recognized how destructive it is
Romans 6:23 KJV 1900
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Proverbs 14:12 KJV 1900
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death.

Sin needs to be completely destroyed

1 Samuel 15:33 KJV 1900
And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.
In pieces!
This old man chopped up the warrior king
How savage
1 Samuel 15:34 KJV 1900
Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
Unpleasant
Mean!
But sin needs to be completely destroyed!
Don’t play with something so dangerous
1 Peter 5:8–9 KJV 1900
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Would you put a lion in a cage and try to tame it?
No! and don’t try to cage your sin
Ephesians 4:27 KJV 1900
Neither give place to the devil.
/
Proverbs 28:13 KJV 1900
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
Forsake!
Not put it on the back burner
Not “save it for later”
Not “stop for a while”
Leave it behind
Go in a different direction
Romans 6:1–2 KJV 1900
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Our tendency/nature is to be easy on our sin
Romans 6:1 KJV 1900
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Ephesians 4:27 KJV 1900
Neither give place to the devil.
34
Our tendency/nature is to be easy on our sin
Our tendency/nature is to be easy on our sin
We should be like Samuel and completely destroy sin in our lives.
Do not give opportunity for sin to return
Sin is hard to get rid of!
Sin is destructive!
Sin needs to be destroyed completely!

Those that harbor and protect sin should be avoided

Was wanting to worship without having obeyed
Samuel
