And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
He sinned because he feared and obeyed people
Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord thy God.
He worshipped because he feared and obeyed people

When we follow people, we never know where or what they will lead us to

God’s Will is specific
Satan’s will is anything but God’s will

Trying to please people will almost always take you away from God’s will
Not the first time
For Saul, this was not the first time
People had led him to do wrong before:
Sacrificed because he wanted the people with him
And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;

God’s will and man’s will are often opposite of each other
It is a battle between the flesh and the spirit
What men naturally desire is rarely/almost never what God desires
Obey God rather than men
Often our obedience to people is not so obvious
It is more peer pressure than obeying commands
Saul obeyed the people, but I doubt they were bossing him around
They wanted to keep the sheep and he obeyed
This is why we need to be extremely careful about who we spend time with
They affect us
Their wishes/desires/concerns will change us
If we are not actively influencing/speaking/changing our friends
They are changing us
Television…(you are not influencing your television)
Blessed is the man
That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor standeth in the way of sinners,
Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
And in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Don’t stand in their way!
But that’s too extreme!
Not if you want to be blessed!
Delight and meditate in the law of the Lord
When you delight in something
You get pleasure, strength, peace from it
Sun taking a deep breath
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
And lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him,
And he shall direct thy paths.
Be not wise in thine own eyes:
Fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
HE shall direct thy paths.

How do we avoid people pleasing?
Trust in the Lord with all our hearts

Why do we follow people?
Because we rely on them
We trust in them
For praise
For support
For encouragement
For love
Because our hearts DELIGHT in them instead of the things of the Lord
We received happiness, strength, peace
Problem when we get more strength from an hour in front of a movie
Than an hour in God’s Word
Problem when we get more peace from an hour with friends
Than an hour in prayer
Problem when we get more support from people and things of the world
Than from the
This used to be so,
But the more we feed the spirit, the more we will be controlled by the spirit

You have the Holy Spirit of God in you
But you need to acknowledge him

When a man’s ways please the Lord,
He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
When we please the Lord
There is great peace
There is great support
There is great reward
There is great joy
There is great relief
There is great blessing
