Kingdom Parables
The Parable of the Tenants
Introduction:

Homiletical Idea: Those who are allegiant to Christ Jesus will inherit God’s Kingdom, but those who rebel are doomed to judgment.

Explain the Parable
This a Prophetic Parable.
The Tenants = Israel.
The Servants Sent = Prophets.
Stoning of Stephen - (ESV) — 51 “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. 52 Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, 53 you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.”
The Son = God the Son: Jesus Christ.
The Killing of the Son = The Crucifixion.
The Exchange = from the Jews to the Gentiles.

I. Attitudes of Rebellion.

A. Three Attitudes of Rebellion:

1. Contempt.

2. Entitlement.

3. Self-Centered.

B. Rebel’s Reward: God’s Judgment.

C. Is An Attitude of Rebellion Possible in a Church? - Yes!

1. Note: These Were Religious Rulers.

2. Ill: The Church in Ephesus ().

D. App: If These Attitudes are Found:

1. Repent: Stop and Turn.

2. Adopt Attitudes of Allegiance.

(Trans: What are the Attitudes of Allegiance? Let’s consider that. The Attitudes of Rebellion against Christ are Contempt, Entitlement, and Self-Centeredness and these lead to God’s Judgment. Adverse to the Attitudes of Rebellion are the Attitudes of Allegiance to Christ.)

II. Attitudes of Allegiance.

A. Three Attitudes of Allegiance:

1. Respect (instead of contempt).

2. Gratitude (instead of entitlement).

3. Kingdom-Centered (instead of self-centered).

(ESV) — 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
(ESV) — 1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

B. Allegiant’s Reward: God’s Kingdom.
