Barren but not forgotten
5 In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah.
And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord.
7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years.
13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.
Prayers may be heard but the answer may be delayed.
This does not mean God has not heard you or even ignoring you its about God timing.
So often we give up hope prematurely.
We forget what Isaiah said But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings as eagles; They shall run, and not be weary; And they shall walk, and not faint.
They shall mount up with wings xas eagles;
They shall run, and not be weary;
And they shall walk, and not faint.
Or what David said in I had fainted, unless I had believed To see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
To see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
14  Wait on the LORD: Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: Wait, I say, on the LORD.
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart:
Wait, I say, on the LORD.
Zechariah had been praying to the Lord for a child.
Yet he had become hopeless.
An obvious highlight in in life was his opportunity to minister in the temple.
While ministering he gets an unexpected visitor, Gabriel announcing his wife would bear a son.
This was an astonishing change of events.
SO much so Zachariah had a momentary lapse he doubted and question the news.
Yet as the Lord told Sarah is there anything to hard for God.
We have to remain steadfast in the face of disappointment and despair.
Now I notice something about Zachariah and Elizabeth.
They were righteous.
Verse 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
This word blameless means without fault.
The Lord saw their walk and he was pleased with them.
This is why i know you can live a life pleasing to God and still not have everything you want or everything go as you planned.
Many today have been sold a false narrative.
That everything will go as you like in this life.
I believe your response when things go wrong is what the Lord notices.
How do you face your barrenness?
Your disappointments?
Can you keep your integrity?
Can you walk upright?
First we must w
