The Lord is my Shepherd
2  He makes me lie down in green pastures.
Today I am going to preach the Word of God. Hopefully it will not just be some red face rant, I can assure you that it isn’t going to be Amen what this world needs today is not another hug, it doesn’t anymore atta boys, or just look deep within yourself and you will find everything you need. What we desperately need is the word of God. We need to know the Word of God, we need to obey the Word of God, we need to proclaim the Word of God. We don’t need any more hugs, we don’t need any more sloppy agape. We need the all-consuming power. Burning passionate love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
He leads me beside still waters.
3  He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Today I am not going to bring anything that is new to the particular text today. This passage is familiar to everyone in here. What I hope today is to stir up your minds and help you to remember some things about God that will help you grow in grace.
4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
Today’s message is not going to be a focus on what you should not do. It is rather a message on life, a message on love. Sometimes, most of the time the focus of Christianity is on the things you should not have but rather it is the exceedingly better things that you can have and you do have though you might not realize it as a child of God
your rod and your staff,
Psalm 23
they comfort me.
5  You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
THE BENEFITS OF THE LORD.
my cup overflows.
Psalm 103:2–5 ESV
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
Psalm 103
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
Did you know that there are benefits to living and serving God. It is not a loss when you turn to the lord. it is not a bummer to serve the Lord. It is not like something that you have to grit your teeth and do with this aching, numbing, loathing type of attitude that you have to have. There are bennefits to serving the Lord… Look at you neighbor and say there are Benefits to Serving the Lord!!!
Psalm 23 ESV
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
What are these benefits? … He gives you a few… Let me tell you
Forgiveness
3 who forgives all your iniquity,
Today I am going to preach the Word of God. Hopefully it will not just be some red face rant, I can assure you that it isn’t going to be Amen what this world needs today is not another hug, it does not need another counseling session. What we desperately need is the word of God. We need to know the Word of God, we need to obey the Word of God, we need to proclaim the Word of God. We don’t need any more hugs, we don’t need any more sloppy agape. We need the all-consuming power. Burning passionate lov4e for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Who doesn’t want your iniquity forgiven ? This is sin. But it is not just missing the mark of God’s righteousness. Iniquity means gross injustice. Could be hidden or public. Those things that are obvious, shameful, those things that when they occur you can never forget them. Though you try desperately, they are like a bad dream that you can wake from.
Healing
Today I am not going to bring anything that is new to the particular text today. This passage is familiar to everyone in here. What I hjope today is to stir up your minds and help you to rememeber some things about God that will help you grow in grace.
….who heals all your diseases,

Todays message is not going to be a focus on what you should not do. It is rather a message on life, a message on love. Sometimes, most of the time the focus of Christianity is on the things you should not have but rather it is the exceedingly better things that you can have and you do have though you might not realize it as a child of God
I can’t help but think that these two passages are deeply connected one too another. Not all disease is caused by sin. But some of it is. I promise you that the iniquities of life are connected to some form of disease. It may be an unrelenting, irrational paralyzing fears. Some of our diseases caused by iniquities may come in the form of OCD. It may come in the form of depression, it may come in the form of a lack of peace, restless nights, broken relationships. It may even be connected with physical maladies. The Lord has made the spiritual life of man so interwoven with the physical that the long, grueling, laborious, malicious years of sin may show up in the Physical realm.
THE BENEFITS OF THE LORD.
Jesus made it clear that not all physical maladies are not the result of sin. But don’t think that means that none of them are…..
He forgives our iniquities, He heals all of our diseases,
Psalm 102:3–5 ESV
For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace. My heart is struck down like grass and has withered; I forget to eat my bread. Because of my loud groaning my bones cling to my flesh.
Redemption AND Glory

THE LORD-
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
This is the covenant name of God. Do you see how
Not only does he pull us out of the lions den, but he crowns us with Steadfast love and mercy. When David writes and don’t forget the benefits of the Lord. Don’t equate the Lords benefits with the crappy, overpriced benefits of your job. Oh no child of God these benefits are bountiful bennefiits. In fact you don’t have to pay $700 a month for them. These benefits were paid at the cross when the precious blood was applied to your life.
2  He makes me lie down in green pastures.
SATISFACTION
God’s special relationship with you.
5 who satisfies you with good
Let me ask you a question are you satisfied? I mean are you living a life of contentment and satisfaction? The Lord satisfies his people with Good. Listen you amy have been to hell and back, you may have the shirt to prove it. You may have had a crummy childhood with all sorts of broken pieces or a good childhood with a crummy adulthood. Listen wherever youa re today the Lord with forgive you, redeem you, heal you, and satisfy you with good. That good may take the form of the material. He didn’t promise that it would be easy but He did promise it would be good

Renewal 5 … So that you renew your wings like Eagles

Listen you may be beat down, overlooked, betrayed by those closest to you.. You may feel like you are on your last leg with nothing in the tank to give! Listen wait on the Lord. Lean into the Lord, Pursue the Lord and he is the one that will renew and restore your strength like the eagles.
You might be here this morning and you are like well that’s not really my story. I guess He forgot those benefits. Listen these benefits are not given to the rebellious. They are not given to those that just want weekend visits with the Lord. They are given to those that walk with Him serve him, obey Him.
Psalm103:8 8  The LORD is merciful and gracious,
He leads me beside still waters.
Psalm 103:8–12 ESV
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
  The LORD is merciful and gracious,

slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
3  He restores my soul.
THE GOOD SHEPHERD- PSALM 23
9  He will not always chide,
He leads me in paths of righteousness
nor will he keep his anger forever.
for his name’s sake.
10  He does not deal with us according to our sins,
Psalm 23 ESV
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. nor repay us according to our iniquities.
4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
11  For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
I will fear no evil,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
for you are with me;
THE LORD is my Shepherd..... Heres something that might be mind blowing for you. That if you are going to receive the benefits of the Lord He must be your Lord. The Word that is used here for Lord is the Hebrew title given to God Yahweh. Yahweh is the covenant name given to God. It is the name by which the Jew knew the true God, the only God. The Holy One that chose one nation to be its people. The Jewsih nation. In fact during the time of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob the Fathers of the Jewish people the world was polytheistic. Meaning that other religions had many God. But when the the hebrew people came along, they brought this idea of monotheism, that is that God was one, He was supreme, He was the maker of heaven and of earth. And this one God gave a special name to the Sons of Abraham- and that name was Yahweh. So when David says here the Lord is my Shepherd… I shall not want, He is saying that Yahweh is my Shepeherd....
12  as far as the east is from the west,
your rod and your staff,
In the New Testament Yahweh took a different name, He took the name Jesus. The Old Testament Yahweh is the New Testament Jesus. So when David said Yahweh is my Shepherd, today he would say Jesus is my Shepherd.
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
they comfort me.
John 10:11–14 ESV
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,
1 Peter 2:24–25 ESV
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
Up until this point in all of the Psalms. David the author has only used titles such as King, OR RULER. This is the fist time in the book of Psalms that David speaks of this intimate relationship with God. A Shepherd who cares and watches over His flock. This David understands, even thopugh he himself was a King, He started out in Humble beginings and was exalted to King.

5  You prepare a table before me
The first 4 verses are an assertion..
I shall not want...
1) Supply - Not shall not want what? God’s commitment to his children…
Psalm 34:9 ESV
Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!
B) Does not mean health. That lack of faith.
They’ll quote — The concept of healing is used of spiritual healing… Laid on Him the iniquity.
The Apostle Paul had sickness- a thorn. God in a box. I am the God that heals. Doesn’t heal on demand. Doesn’t heal all the time
C) Doesn’t mean happiness. Especially if you are living in sin
What does it mean-
in the presence of my enemies;
Its a statement of self control.
Its a statement of self control;
its a statement of security
Close to him.... there is not much else that I want,
Far from Him and I am wrapped up and twisted in all kinds of things
I shall not want, I have
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
