Review:
Definition of a prompting
A prompting is a sweet nudge of the Holy Spi
When God speaks to us through promptings, vision and timing are everything.
God views timing differently than we view timing.
Chrono, Kairos
Story of Martin Pistorius (Read story from book)
Another way through which God speaks is through pain.
God always
It is through pain God is able to speak His peace into our lives, show us His sovereignty, and bring the joy of restoration.
The Israelites continually disobeyed God and repeatedly showed disloyalty by worshipping other gods and following the way of the cultures around them.
Because of these continuous and intentional acts of disobedience and disregard for God and His Word; Israel had to endure pain.
It was through their pain God was able to get their attention and help them grow in this weak area of their life so that they could once again experience the joy of their Lord.
Who in Scripture endured pain?
Job - lost everything
Sarai - infertility
Paul - memories of murder
Peter - self doubt after denying Jesus
Woman at the well - rejection; self worthlessness
Jeremiah - rejection; feelings of invalidation
Many people in Scripture, all of whom were very real people like you and me, experienced very real pain at some point in their life.
Each one came through to the other side of the darkness pain brings with a common thread.
What is that common thread?
They all heard the whispers of God in the darkness of their pain.
In their darkest hours they heard the voice of God as they communicated with Him.
His grace brought them through to the other side.
Lets consider Job for a moment.
Job 1:
Things were going well with Job
Satan speaks to God about Job and wants to send pain his way.
Job 2:16-22
Job 2:16-22
Job 1:
Job 2:16-22
Through his pain, God spoke to Job reminding him that He is trustworthy and Job could trust him to do no wrong; and even in pain filled times, we can trust God with the situation.
Lets look at Paul
2 Corinthians 12:7
God speaks through pain that His grace is sufficient and that it is His grace that will carry us.
Throughout the years growing up in church and ministering for many years, I have heard many individuals tell others going through pain that its happening because they don’t have faith,or they aren’t praying the right words or not praying correctly, but this would mean its all about me and my abilities.
But its all about God!
Lets consider the woman with the issue of blood
Lets look at the woman with the issue of blood.
Besides the possible physical pain this issue brought her, what was some of the other pain she may have faced?
Besides the physical pain she may have suffered/experienced with this issue; what other type of pain might she have experienced?
Mark 5:
Mark 5:24-34
Mark 5:24
God spoke through the
Through her pain this woman was drawn to God.
Through pain God draws us to Him!
Finally there is Hannah that experienced pain
1 Samuel 1:
God spoke through the pain giving Hannah the peace of knowing He heard her heart breaking and knew the desire of her heart.
He is the God that can go above what we could ever imagine or ask for
1 Samuel 2:21
Although the pain was great in Hannah’s heart, God was preparing Hannah for the the right exact time in which she would become pregnant with Samuel.
And Samuel would then be placed in a place to be near God and live righteously before Him to be prepared for a place of leadership in leading God’s people.
Pain is a gift
