Jesus Begins His Public Ministry
Following John’s imprisonment Jesus comes into Galilee preaching the gospel of God.
Notice if you will that it is God’s gospel.
God has good news to tell the world.
This time He did not send it through angels or a prophet.
this news He brought Himself.
What event initiated the beginning of Jesus public ministry?
What is this gospel that God had to deliver to humanity?
The text tells us that, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand.”
There are two Greek words for “time” that we must distinguish between.
One is “chronos” which deals with a moment by moment or hour by hour perspective.
This is not the word being used in this text.
The word being used in this instance is “kairos” which infers that a significant event like none other has occured.
There really is no English equivalent for this Greek word but the closet to it is historical and historic.
This event is of historic proportions.
Divinity has broken into humanity.
Which Greek word for “time” best describes the time that Jesus proclaimed?
We also must look at the word fulfilled.
It means to be super-filled, over-filled, uncontrollably-filled, spread-out filled.
This news cannot be constrained.
This is headline news.
Extra,Extra read all about it kind of news!
God sent it.
Salvation has come to Isreal and the world in the person of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
