A .Doubt results in spiritual uncertainty

Thomas was a ROBUST Doubter.

1.Uncertainty about commitment

Sermon Outlines on Gospel Passages “Unless I See …” (John 20:24–29)

In those days, twins were often a surprise, and they’d give the chosen name to the first; sometimes the second was merely called “the twin,” and that appears to have been so with Thomas.

Maybe it accounts for his generally negative, doubting personality type. He really outdoes himself following the resurrection of Christ.

Genesis 19:17 NLT
17 When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, “Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!”
Luke 9:57–62 NLT
57 As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” 59 He said to another person, “Come, follow me.” The man agreed, but he said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” 60 But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.” 61 Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.” 62 But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”
B. There was no way he was going to accept the Resurrection
C. He demanded physical evidence, which he never expected to see.

3 Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” 4 My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!
