Thanks Living is My Duty

1 Thessalonians 5:15–22 NKJV
15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!
Introduction:
Thanksgiving is the aspect of praise that gives thanks to God for what He does for us. Ideally, thanksgiving should spring from a grateful heart; but it is required of all believers, regardless of their initial attitude. So we have a duty. I like to say Thanks Living Is My Duty
Seven Exhortations are to govern our behavior toward God.
Rejoice
Romans 5:15 NKJV
15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.
Romans 8:28 NKJV
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
1 Thessalonians 5:16 NKJV
16 Rejoice always,
Romans 5:16 NKJV
16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification.
r
Rejoice always; rejoice evermore:
God has saved us, and
He looks after and cares for us.
If we love God, God promises that He will take all the circumstances that attack us and work them out for good
Romans 8:28 NKJV
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
).
And on top of this,
He has given us eternal life,
the privilege of living face to face with Him and serving Him forever and ever.
When you knows this and keep your mind upon these glorious facts you can do nothing but rejoice.
Philippians 4:4 NKJV
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV
17 pray without ceasing,
2. Pray
1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV
17 pray without ceasing,
Prayer is God's ordained way for man to receive things from Him.
God moves, acts, and responds to prayer.
Prayer is a law that He has established throughout the universe.
Why? Because prayer stirs fellowship and communion with God and brings about a greater knowledge and understanding of God. It causes us to learn more and more about God and creates more and more trust as well as worship and praise of God.
Prayer stirs and causes every good thing imaginable between God and man. This is the reason God destined prayer as the primary way man is to communicate with Him.
This is the reason for this exhortation.
Therefore, pray without ceasing; continue and persevere in prayer: in your daily worship and quiet times and as you walk throughout the day.
Matthew 7:7 NLT
7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
Mat 7:7
3. Be Thankful
1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV
18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Give thanks in all things.
How can we thank God for terrible trials such as accidents and death and sin?
We don't; this is not what Scripture means.
What God means is to thank Him for His presence and power as we walk through such trials.
In Christ Jesus there is victory and triumph over all, no matter how terrible.
Therefore, in everything (not for everything)— as we walk through all—thank God for the victory.
Write this down,
"This is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
1. that we rejoice evermore.
1. that we rejoice evermore.
2. that we pray without ceasing.
3. that we give thanks in everything
Ephes
Ephesians 5:20 NLT
20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:19 AMP
19 Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit;
1st Thess 5:
4. Don’t Stop The Holy Spirit
1 Thessalonians 5:19 AMP
19 Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit;
1. Quenching the Spirit ().
To quench means to stifle, to snuff out, to stop.
The Holy Spirit is always working in our life to lead us to do God's will.
We quench the Spirit's work by:
(a) ignoring Him,
(b) neglecting Him,
c) disobeying Him,
(d) procrastinating.
5. Don’t Despise The Preaching of The Gospel of Jesus Christ!
1 Thessalonians 5:20 AMP
20 Do not spurn the gifts and utterances of the prophets [do not depreciate prophetic revelations nor despise inspired instruction or exhortation or warning].
1 Thessalonians 5:19 NKJV
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
1
1 Thessalonians 5:20 The Message
20 and don’t stifle those who have a word from the Master.
Prophecy in this context is the gift of proclaiming the gospel and predicting the future under the influence of the Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 14:3 NLT
3 But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.
6. Test Everything
1 Thessalonians 5:21 NLT
21 but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.
Test all things; hold fast to what proves to be good. Both the gifts and behavior of believers are to be tested.
If a person claims to prophesy—whether proclaiming the gospel or predicting some event to strengthen believers for some coming trial—all should be tested.
We are not to blindly accept what people say, even if it is the preacher or servant of God.
Neither are we to blindly accept people themselves.
Every person—what he says and does—is to be tested and proven.
How? By measuring what he says and does by the Scripture.
The Scriptures must be studied in order to measure what people say and do.
The only way to know truth from error is to the know the Scripture.
1
1 John 4:1 NLT
1 Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.
7. Stay Away From Every Kind Of Evil
1 Thessalonians 5:22 NLT
22 Stay away from every kind of evil.
Abstain from all appearance of evil:
Look at this:
⇒ If something even appears or borders on evil, get away from it.
⇒ If something even appears or borders on evil, get away from it.
⇒ If there is any chance whatsoever that it could be wrong, leave it alone.
⇒ If there is even a suggestion that it could be wrong, flee it.
A believer must have nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with evil—not even the appearance of it
Psalm 34:14 NKJV
14 Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.
