Intro: Last Sunday, yet another act of violence shattered the calm that had just settled since the last act of violence.
And those are only the events that get widely reported.
We struggle to comprehend what it means and we feel helpless.
This morning, we want to consider whether we are helpless to do anything about it.
I) Cause of violence
This is often politicized into debates that ignore the root cause; I will not spend time discussing the Second Amendment because the bible does not mention guns, and very little about weapons
But the root cause is hate, and I will talk about that
Hatred is regarding something or someone as an enemy – – some will hate knowledge – – God hates evil
Hatred is not evil in itself – ; ; ;
But hatred of others is evil – ; ;
II) Answer to hatred
Light is the answer to darkness – ;
Good is the answer to evil –
Love is the answer to hatred – ; ,
We cannot change the past, but we do affect the future –
III) What I can do
Respond to evil/hate with good/love in your world
Those who are filled with hate got there by a process – ; ,
We can intercept those who may be on the path to hatred before they get there – ; , ,
Most widely reported violence came from diligent planning (fertilizer and rental, guns and body armor, airplanes and box cutters)
Don’t let those who hate work harder than we do – ;
Use your influence to stimulate others – – social media is often used to spread hatred, use it to spread love and encourage others to do the same
Concl: We cannot wring our hands in failure, or become distracted by pleasures of the world.
We must fight hate with love.
Determine that you will show the love that God has shown to you in the face of the hatred inspired by the devil – – be a soldier for the Lord and allow God to overcome the enemy.
