Ephesians.
Ephesians 2:10 ESV
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Remember what the Bible says about the Church...

Ephesians 3:10 ESV
so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.

TWO PARTS to our message tonight.

The Work of Christ

Two Parts to our message tonight.

Christ’s Work in Us.

The Work of Christ

Ephesians 2:7 ESV
7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 1:7 ESV
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
Redemption (bought back)
Forgiveness of our trespasses - what is trespasses?
Ephesians 1:9 ESV
9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ
Knowledge of God’s will. We know what God is up to, because remember…we had to be bought back because the union with God was separated. God is very gracious.
Here’s what god is up too...

Christ’s Work in Us.

Our understanding of what Jesus did on the cross, is what God says in 2:10 (created, which means, NEW). Our understanding/comprehension/OR ability to tell somebody else about what happened, defines the work that comes out of us. This....to me… is where God’s wisdom shows up and I say things like ....
Romans 11:33 ESV
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
Ephesians 2:10 ESV
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
The church is God’s workmanship. Made new in Christ. “Walk,” - not a fast process.
We have work to do. We must be about this business.
Titus 2:14 ESV
14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
Zealous for good works identifies what comes out, not what’s on the inside.

Before the zealousness..here’s what we got.

The body’s work is different in many areas. It looks like this.
2 Corinthians 1:3–7 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. 6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. 7 Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
1 Corinthians 1:3–7 ESV
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1 Corinthians 12:12–26 ESV
12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. 14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.
Verse 22-24 - Baseball analogy for a pitcher and doing “bands” everyday because pitching isn’t about bigger size equalling “greater strength.” That’s why a guy like me could succeed in a baseball that didn’t require a lot of size.
Here’s an example of what we look like functioning as the body...
