HOW DID WE GET HERE?

Three options...

1) Everything came from nothing

2) Everything has always existed

3) Everything was created by something

KEY: God created the universe

GOD’S CREATION

1) God created everything out of nothing

Genesis 1:1 ESV
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Hebrews 11:3 ESV
By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

KEY TERM: “Ex nihilo” is a Latin term meaning “from nothing”

APPLICATION: God can make something out of anything

KEY TERM: “Transcendence” means “above and beyond”

KEY TERM: “Immanence” means “active and involved”

APPLICATION: God is near enough to care and big enough to conquer

4) God created everything to be good

Genesis 1:31 ESV
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

KEY TERM: “Concurrence” means God is working everything in the universe for good

APPLICATION: God is not the author of evil

5) God created everything for his glory

Revelation 4:11 ESV
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”

KEY TERM: “Sovereignty” means God owns everything

APPLICATION: Creation is for the glory of God, but also for the enjoyment of man
