Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is hard: He refuses to let the people go. Go to Pharaoh in the morning. When you see him walking out to the water, stand ready to meet him by the bank of the Nile. Take in your hand the staff that turned into a snake. Tell him: The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to tell you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness, but so far you have not listened. This is what the Lord says: Here is how you will know that I am the Lord. Watch. I am about to strike the water in the Nile with the staff in my hand, and it will turn to blood. The fish in the Nile will die, the river will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable to drink water from it.”
So the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron: Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over their rivers, canals, ponds, and all their water reservoirs—and they will become blood. There will be blood throughout the land of Egypt, even in wooden and stone containers.”
Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded; in the sight of Pharaoh and his officials, he raised the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water in the Nile was turned to blood. The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad the Egyptians could not drink water from it. There was blood throughout the land of Egypt.
But the magicians of Egypt did the same thing by their occult practices. So Pharaoh’s heart was hard, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Pharaoh turned around, went into his palace, and didn’t take even this to heart. All the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink because they could not drink the water from the river. Seven days passed after the Lord struck the Nile.

God’s judgment is sent as a reminder that God is supreme.

Egypt’s first problem was not a slave problem, it was a idol problem.

Illus: Lets put a facts out in front today.
1. The Israelites were not in Egypt by accident. God sent them there. Remember the story of Joseph.
2. Pharoah, saw himself as more than just a king, he saw himself as a god.
3. not only did pharoah see himself as a God, the people of Egypt and the world saw him as one as well.
4. No nation on this earth exists and has power outside the plan and purpose of God.
5. God’s plan was to raise up Egypt to make an example out of Egypt. He wanted to publicly show that pharoah was not a God and only He was God.
Many times God will raise up and tear down the powers of this world just to show he is GOd. Think tower of Babel.
Illus: (CSB) The Lord answered Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. 2 You must say whatever I command you; then Aaron your brother must declare it to Pharaoh so that he will let the Israelites go from his land. 3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart and multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 Pharaoh will not listen to you, but I will put my hand into Egypt and bring the military divisions of my people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. 5 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the Israelites from among them.”

When a person, or group, sets themselves up against God, God will bring public judgement for His own name sake.

Illus: God is jealous for his own glory. HE does not share his glory with man, nation or anybody. This is why the bible is so serious about pride. Pride is men expecting the glory that God alone deserves.
Take a moment and think about
Think about our day today, we have built a culture on pride. We are living in a time where we are expected to make much of ourselves, and told to do whatever we want to love ourselves.
This is a recipe to bring the wrath of God upon us quickly.

Illus: Pain is a gift from God. Let me explain.
If you get cut and never feel the pain of the cut, you could bleed to death if you never feel the pain of the cut.
If you burn your hand, but never feel the pain of the burn, you could permanently hurt your body.
Sometimes pain comes for no reason. Sometimes God brings pain to show us places in our life that are hurting us. When you are in sin, and feel the pain that sin brings, thank God for the pain because that pain is God’s grace to lead you back to him.

Illus: People have one of two reactions to the sting of God’s judgment.
1. They turn to God and repent to find the life God has for them.
2. They grow hard and bitter towards God because they love thier pride and sin matter more than the life God gives.

God’s judgment may not move the hearts of the wicked.

Our place in the midst of judgment it place our faith in God’s big plan.

Illus: God is ready give you grace and forgiveness, but he is also ready to bring judgement. The question for you is whether you place your faith in yourself and embrace your sin, or place your faith in God and embrace his life.
