How do we live in light of the looming face of death? We can’t control it so we enjoy God’s gifts within this life. These verses ironically contain maybe the book’s most grim look at the brokenness of this life— culminating in death itself, and also offer one of the book’s most optimistic charges to readers: enjoy this life, even in the midst of all its pain and struggle. Only through placing our faith in the right Source, can we find contentment, blessing, and joy that surpass the crushing realities of life and death.
