26 It was this Aaron and Moses whom the LORD told, “Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt according to their military divisions.” 27 Moses and Aaron were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt in order to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.
MOSES AND AARON BEFORE PHARAOH
28 On the day the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 he said to him, “I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I am telling you.”
30 But Moses replied in the LORD’s presence, “Since I am such a poor speaker, how will Pharaoh listen to me?”
7 The LORD answered Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. 2 You must say whatever I command you; then Aaron your brother must declare it to Pharaoh so that he will let the Israelites go from his land. 3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart and multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 Pharaoh will not listen to you, but I will put my hand into Egypt and bring the military divisions of my people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. 5 The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the Israelites from among them.”
6 So Moses and Aaron did this; they did just as the LORD commanded them. 7 Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.
8 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 9 “When Pharaoh tells you, ‘Perform a miracle,’ tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh. It will become a serpent.’ ” 10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD had commanded. Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a serpent. 11 But then Pharaoh called the wise men and sorcerers—the magicians of Egypt, and they also did the same thing by their occult practices. 12 Each one threw down his staff, and it became a serpent. But Aaron’s staff swallowed their staffs. 13 However, Pharaoh’s heart was hard, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

Illus: God sent moses to deliver a message which would not be accepted. In fact scripture teaches that God actually hardens pharoah’s heart so that pharoah will not accept it.
As God sent moses, moses did not get to choose his message, but instead he was responsible to give the message as God sent it. It was not Moses’ job to craft the message or filter it. His job was to deliver it.
Far to often we shy away from difficult messages because we want to please people. Just imagine if important messages were modified to only be positive.
Imagine your doctor, knowing you have cancer, telling you that everything is ok.
Imagine an accountant, knowing you need to pay the government a large sum, tells you that you are fine financially.
Imagine your car mechanic, knowing your transmission is shot, tells you your car working well enough to take a cross country trip.
Imagine city officials, knowing the levee is about to break and flood the town, tell you not to evacuate.
Each of these people become complicit in the disaters that ensue afterwords. Why? because their desire to avoid bad news brought destruction to your life.
We have necessary news that must be deliverd to our world. We must share with them that our lives without christ are destined for the wrath of God and eternal death. It is only in grasping this reality that they can turn to Christ who can bring healing and life.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come! 18 Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. 19 That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us.

Illus: Any time I read an article online or watch the news about a current event, I am always trying to cut through the spin.
There is no such thing as a no spin zone.
Every one is trying to influence others to believe and adopt their personal causes.
For real, any time a national emergency comes upon us, every ideological group jumps and tries to use the emergency to spin the issue to benifit their cause.
With our faith, we have many things which are not just countercultural but are mocked by the culture at large.
In response we want to begin to spin our faith to be more culturally acceptable. In this we downplay or deny the parts of our faith which seem offensive. We spin scripture to fit the culture as a whole.
What we have forgotten in these moments is that our job is proclaim a message that pleases men, but instead one that pleases God.

Illus: as a church every decision and action should be centered around whether we are doing what we are doing to please ourselves or to please God.
As a staff we take ministry seriously. We want to make sure that everything we do works to accomplish God’s mission for us.

Illus: We have been reading the bible through in a year with the girls. As we have begun reading through the gospels one of my girls asked me if jesus healed everyone he came in contact with.
I told her that Jesus probably left more people unhealed than he healed. This shocked and surprised my daughter. She was thinking, “If jesus could heal everyone, why wouldn’t he”
I shared with her that Jesus did not heal people because they were physically hurt, but instead he healed them to accomplish a greater purpose. Every time Jesus healed a person it was to confirm who he was and the message he brought.
When we share the gospel with others, we need to understand that God wants to prove that his message is true.
When we share the gospel, God’s greatest truth, God’s power is at work through us.

Illus: We have been tricked into thinking that we somehow will lose if we stay faithful to God. The world will look like his power, but we cannot forget that God always wins. So here is the question, who are you seeking to please?
