Transcript for Christ Alone is good.  Christ takes this...
Galatians: Difference between bonded sets and centered sets.
Bonded set: To be a part of the group, you need to be on the right side of the boundary.  In or out of the circle.  Behaviors, externals.
Centered Set: Defined by what’s at the middle.  Not in or out, but moving towards Jesus.  African farm concepts…  Church disciples conversations.
Paul writes in Christ 164 times in the Bible.
Klyne Snodgrass: Christ is the ‘place’ where believers reside, the source in which they find God’s salvation and blessings, and the framework in which they live and work. It is as if Christ were a vast repository holding the gifts of God, but, of course, without losing any sense of Christ as person. Christ is the source of all spiritual blessings, and because believers reside in him they can enjoy those blessings. Just as Christ’s personhood is not lost, neither is the believer’s individuality lost.” 48

Distortion of Gospel: 5:10: The ones doing this will have to pay the penalty. Trouble-makers
Content: Truth of the Gospel
Not credentials of the Content: Content must line up with what the Gospel is. If someone departs, there is anathema (cursed).
Church was drawing power to itself. It was a power-play. Work of Salvation is the work of the Trinity in concert.
Passage:
1 Timothy 2:1–7 ESV
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Mediator: God and men.
Jesus is the bridge between humanity.
Not only bringing people back to one another, but there was mediation between the fall. But God created us in order for us to be in communion with God. We didn’t live the way God invited us. Uniqueness of Christianity is God seeking us out for communion with God.
Job 9:32–33 ESV
For he is not a man, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial together. There is no arbiter between us, who might lay his hand on us both.
Religions: Humanity’s search for God.
Job 9:32 ESV
For he is not a man, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial together.
Christianity: God’s search for humanity
Great and terrific God: Moses is a mediator. System of sacrifices. Temple practices. Everything is pointing to the person of Christ whom all of God is ‘concentrated’.
Carried the people of Israel with him into the Most Holy Place into God’s presence on the Ephod! Different rocks.
Hebrews passage?
Jesus is both fully human and fully divine.
As mediator, he was both God and human.
Heidelberg: Why must be the s
God’s justice demands it. Humanity must ante up. Why try God? Power of divinity, can withstand the requirement of death.
Why Alone?
How do we add to Jesus?
Church, saints, etc. Time of reformation, church was calling too much attention to itself, rather than what the church is, Christ’s body. Priest was viewed as mediator. Christ is speaking to us, who baptizes us, who offers himself offering himself, who is also the HOST at the supper.
Hebrews 4:14–16 ESV
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 2 ESV
Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. It has been testified somewhere, “What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him? You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor, putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.” Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Hebrews:
Approach through Jesus
Hebrews 4 ESV
Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest,’ ” although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.” And again in this passage he said, “They shall not enter my rest.” Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Church Problem: Claimed to have a corner of grace. If you want grace, you have to go through the priests.
:
Another phrase: Priesthood of all believers. Priesthood unto one another participating as Christ’s priesthood of the father. We are a community being all in Christ alone, thereby siblings of one another.
Where are people at today in terms of their thoughts about the church?
We have, in Christ, all we need, for being returned to full communion with God.
Movement Christian: Moral Therapeutic Deism
Not looking to saints, just, “I don’t need a go-between.” Realize: We aren’t just going to casually enter God’s presence one day.
“Don’t you just love you, God!” How big a bridge? Didn’t really need you! I could have hopped over the chasm myself. If I could do this on my own, than the atonement was all for not. Some of us who still preach sin and have a confession of sin, can be viewed as a downer. Not being just grim. We are appreciating what only Christ alone could do.
Exodus 28:6–14 ESV
“And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and of fine twined linen, skillfully worked. It shall have two shoulder pieces attached to its two edges, so that it may be joined together. And the skillfully woven band on it shall be made like it and be of one piece with it, of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen. You shall take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel, six of their names on the one stone, and the names of the remaining six on the other stone, in the order of their birth. As a jeweler engraves signets, so shall you engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel. You shall enclose them in settings of gold filigree. And you shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders for remembrance. You shall make settings of gold filigree, and two chains of pure gold, twisted like cords; and you shall attach the corded chains to the settings.
Two shoulder pieces made of onyx. Two shoulder pieces.

Colossians 1:18–23 ESV
And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.
In order to serve… You are priests!
Acts
Acts 6:7 ESV
And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.
Romans 15:15–16 ESV
But on some points I have written to you very boldly by way of reminder, because of the grace given me by God to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
Priests
