3 Things that Paralyze Our Potential

Our Fears about the Future

Our Regrets About the Past

Our Doubts About Our Abilities

Luke 5:17–19 NLT
17 One day while Jesus was teaching, some Pharisees and teachers of religious law were sitting nearby. (It seemed that these men showed up from every village in all Galilee and Judea, as well as from Jerusalem.) And the Lord’s healing power was strongly with Jesus. 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried to take him inside to Jesus, 19 but they couldn’t reach him because of the crowd. So they went up to the roof and took off some tiles. Then they lowered the sick man on his mat down into the crowd, right in front of Jesus.

Jesus did the same 3 things with this man that he does to help us change.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I ASK JESUS TO CHANGE ME?

1. HE WILL EASE YOUR FEARS.

Matthew 9:2 NLT
2 Some people brought to him a paralyzed man on a mat. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Be encouraged, my child! Your sins are forgiven.”

Why Was Jesus First Response to Ease Our Fears?

Because Fear is Universal Problem.

Proverbs 12:25 NLT
25 Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
1 Peter 5:7 NLT
7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

Because Fear Keeps Us From Getting Close to God.

Psalm 34:4 NLT
4 I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.

The More You Get to Know God, the Fewer Fears You will have.

2. HE WILL ELIMINATE YOUR GUILT.

Luke 5:20 NLT
20 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”

All of us Carry Hidden Guilt.

How Does Jesus Forgive us?

Jesus Forgives Us Instantly.
Isaiah 55:7 TEV
7 Let the wicked leave their way of life and change their way of thinking. Let them turn to the Lord, our God; he is merciful and quick to forgive.
Jesus Forgives Us Completely.
Colossians 2:13–14 GW
13 You were once dead because of your failures and your uncircumcised corrupt nature. But God made you alive with Christ when he forgave all our failures. 14 He did this by erasing the charges that were brought against us by the written laws God had established. He took the charges away by nailing them to the cross.
Jesus Forgives Us Freely.
Romans 3:22 The Living Bible
21 But now God has shown us a different way to heaven—not by “being good enough” and trying to keep his laws, but by a new way (though not new, really, for the Scriptures told about it long ago). Now God says he will accept and acquit us—declare us “not guilty”—if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.
If you don’t understand God’s Complete Forgiveness, every time something bad happens, you begin to think that God is Punishing you.
When You really Understand God’s Complete Forgiveness, You are Amazed that God would Love and forgive a Heart Like Mine.

3. HE WILL ENABLE YOU TO DO WHAT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE!

Mark 2:10–12 NLT
10 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, 11 “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” 12 And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!”

Jesus Healed the Man and then asked Him to do What was Previously Impossible - Get Up and Walk.

Why Did Jesus do this?

Faith is a Belief that Results in Action.

Mark 10:27 NLT
27 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.”

When God Asks You to Do the Impossible, He gives You the Power to do it.

Philippians 2:13 NLT
13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

WHAT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE?

Matthew 9:29 NLT
29 Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.”

You Need to Do the 3 Things The Paralyzed Man did

1. Turn to Jesus for Help.

2. Believe Jesus can and will Help You!

3. Do Whatever Jesus Tells You to Do.
