Reflect

To reflect, think, meditate, ponder, consider. It is always good to do that with the scripture and the theme passage for this series is what we just read. Tonight it says meditate on these things.
Just a few weeks ago we started with reflections on the Bible, then on it’s author, GOD and now we turn to the main subject matter of the Bible His Son- Jesus!
Is there enough time to truly meditate on Jesus, it could be overwhelming
If you were going to use one word to describe Jesus, or to meditate upon what word would you use?
D.M. Lockridge did a sermon entitled “He’s My King: Do you know Him” and sit back as I try to give some of the describers he used.
THE BIBLE SAYS:
He’s the King of the Jews
Mt2:2 “2 “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.””
Mt27:37 “37 And above His head they put up the charge against Him which read, “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.””
He’s the King of Israel
Mk15:32 “32 “Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.”
He’s the King of Righteousness
He’s the King of the Ages
He’s the King of Heaven
He’s the King of Glory
He’s the King of King’s and the is the Lord of Lords
Re17:14 “14 “These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.””
Now that is my King!
David says
The Heavens declare the glory of God
The Firmament showeth His handiwork
No means of measure can define his limitless love
Ps118:1 “1 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
No barriers can hinder Him from pouring out His blessings.
Now that is my King!
He’s enduringly strong
He’s entirely sincere
He’s eternally steadfast
He’s immortally graceful
He’s imperially powerful
He’s impartially merciful
Now that is my King!
He’s God’s Son
He’s the sinners Savior
He’s the centerpiece of civilization
He stands alone in Himself
Now that’s My King!
He’s unique
He’s unparalleled
He’s unprecedented
He’s supreme
He’s pre-eminent
He’s the loftiest idea in literature
He’s the highest personality in philosophy
He’s the supreme problem in higher criticism
He’s the fundamental doctrine in true theology
He’s the cardinal necessity of spiritual religion
Now that’s My King!
He’s the miracle of the age
He’s the superlative of everything good that you choose to call him
He’s the only one able to supply all of our needs, simultaneously
He supplies strength for the weak
He sets the captives free
He’s available for the tempted and the tried
He sympathizes and He saves
He guards and He guides
He heals the sick, cleanses the leapers
He forgives sinners
He discharges debtors
He defends the feeble
He blesses the Young
He serves the unfortunate
He regards the aged
He rewards the diligent
He’s my King; do you know Him? My king, He is the key of knowledge
He’s the wellspring of wisdom
He’s the doorway of deliverance
He’s the pathway of peace
He’s the roadway of righteousness
He’s the highway of holiness
He’s the gateway of glory
He’s the master of the mighty
He’s the captain of the conquerors
He’s the head of the heroes
He’s the overseer of the overcomers
He’s the leader of the legislators
He’s the governor of governors
He’s the prince of princes
He’s the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords
Now that is my king, do you know Him?
His office is manifold
His promise is sure
His life is matchless
His goodness is limitless
His mercy is everlasting
His love never changes
His Word is enough
His grace is sufficient
His reign is righteous
His yoke is easy and His burden is light
I wish I could describe Him
He’s indescribable
He’s incomprehensible
He’s invincible
He’s irresistible
I’m trying to tell you
Heaven of heavens cannot contain Him
Man cannot explain him
You can’t get Him out of your mind
You can’t get Him off of your hands
You can’t outlive Him
And you can’t live without him
(Insert- thats my king picture here)
The Pharisee’s couldn’t stand Him, but they found out they couldn’t stop Him. Pilate couldn’t find any fault in Him and the witnesses couldn’t get their testimonies to agree. Herod couldn’t kill Him, death couldn’t handle Him
And the grave could not hold Him.
That’s my King; He always has been, always will be. He had no predecessor and there will be no successor. There is nobody before Him and there’ll be nobody after Him. You can’t impeach Him and He’s not going to resign.
That’s my king, do you know Him?
Now that was a mouthful, but a mouthful of Jesus is a good thing, not as good as a heartful of Him that saved you, or can save you. But it is now time to move onto our reflection for today.

I.Reflections on Jesus

He is the bread of life. (Jn6:33, 35-38)
John 6:33 NASB95
33 “For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.”
John 6:38 NASB95
38 “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
So here we have the bread, but let me make a sandwich for you
John 6:35–37 NASB95
35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. 36 “But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. 37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.
The first of the I AM statements, who He is, where He came from and why, so we will never hunger or thirst
He’s the Light of the World. (Jn8:12, 11:9-10; 10:7-11, 14)
John 8:12 NASB95
12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
Couple this with
John 11:9–10 NASB95
9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 “But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”
So He is the Light so we will not stumble! Not only that but He illuminates the world through YOU! He reveals sin through the Light of His Word; and brings people into the Light by faith
He is the Door of the sheep and the Good Shepherd
John 10:7–8 NASB95
7 So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 “All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
John 10:9 NASB95
9 “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
John 10:10 NASB95
10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
He is the door, the way to be saved and to have life abundantly
As the good shepherd (Jn10:11, 14)
John 10:11 NASB95
11 “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
John 10:14 NASB95
14 “I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me,
He knows His own and he lays down His life for His sheep
He is the way to have a resurrected life for He is the resurrection and the life (Jn11:25, 14:6)
John 11:25 NASB95
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
He makes eternal life possible for He is the way the truth and the life.
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
He is the vine, the source of our spiritual nourishment (Jn15:1, 5; 8:58)
John 15:1 NASB95
1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
John 15:5 NASB95
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
WE must abide in Him, we must stay connected to Him to bear much fruit for Him
Now think about this for a minute, Jn15:1 says He is the True Vine and if He is the True Vine, what does that imply? - be careful of false vines; you need to know who you are connected too!
For this vine is
John 8:58 NASB95
58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.”
So let me ask the question again, if you were to describe Jesus in one word, or meditate on one quality of Jesus what would it be?

II. Reflections on Jesus

Napoleon Bonaparte
“Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and myself founded empires; but what foundation did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded and empire upon love; and at this hour millions would die for Him.”
H.G. Wells (Author and historian)
“I am a historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.”
C.S. Lewis
“You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God; or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God.”
There is a poem written by a professor by name of James A Francis who specialized in cultural history with focus on the Roman Empire.
One Solitary Life by James A Francis
One Solitary Life He was born in an obscure village The child of a peasant woman
He grew up in another obscure village Where he worked in a carpenter shop Until he was thirty
He never wrote a book He never held an office He never went to college He never visited a big city He never travelled more than two hundred miles From the place where he was born He did none of the things Usually associated with greatness
He had no credentials but himself He was only thirty three His friends ran away One of them denied him He was turned over to his enemies And went through the mockery of a trial He was nailed to a cross between two thieves While dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing The only property he had on earth When he was dead He was laid in a borrowed grave
Through the pity of a friend Nineteen centuries have come and gone And today Jesus is the central figure of the human race And the leader of mankind's progress All the armies that have ever marched All the navies that have ever sailed All the parliaments that have ever sat All the kings that ever reigned put together Have not affected the life of mankind on earth As powerfully as that one solitary life
In conclusion This morning
(insert invitation slide: Jesus changed the world picture here)

The bread of life, the light of the world, the door of the sheep, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life, the way the truth and the life. He is the true vine and the great I AM
