This sermon shows the importance of having the building, or church, of God built properly. It must have the proper foundation, built by a skilled builder/artisan, it must be made of the right stuff, and it will be tested. Finally it has a goal as being set up for a purpose.

Intro

Nick-named The Dancing House, Prague’s Nationale-Nederlanden building was designed by Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić and Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry.
The deconstructivist – or new-baroque – architecture forms an unusual dancing shape thanks to 99 concrete panels, each a different shape and dimension. It’s proved so popular that the building now features on a gold 2,000 Czech koruna coin issued by the Czech National Bank.
This building would not be a possibility without an architect and artisan. An architect to design and supervise the building. And an artisan who is a skilled person that works the building with their hands. There are many structures in the world today that boggle the mind, some having stood for centuries. But there is only one that will last for an eternity, this structure is the Church of Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:10–17 NKJV
10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. 16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

V9-11: God's Building

1 Corinthians 3:9–11 NKJV
9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
fellow worker n. — a person who participates in the same activity as oneself.
(WE WORK TOGETHER WITH GOD.)
building project n. — any piece of work that is undertaken or attempted; especially a construction project.
(WE ARE GOD'S HANDYWORK, HIS BUILDING.)
foundation n. — the foundational support for a structure; usually made of stone.
Paul laid the foundation and someone built upon what he laid. Here he expresses how the Corinthian body was built and how they are all fellow workers. He did step one, someone else did another step, and so on.
“Each builder must choose with care how to build on it.”
He’s telling them to be careful with how they build on it. Now he will lay out guidelines with how the building should be built.
1 Corinthians 3:11 NKJV
11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the foundational support of this building. He makes sure that the building will continue to stand! Paul states that God’s building cannot have any other foundation except it be Christ Jesus!
The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version. (1989). (). Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers.
God has designed a building in which we work with him to build. This building has specific instructions and requires that we be skilled in the building of it.

V12-15: Durability of the Building

1 Corinthians 3:12 NKJV
12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
1 Corinthians 3:12–15 NKJV
12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

V12-15: Durability of the Building

V12-15: Durability of the Building

Gold, Silver, Precious Stones VS Wood, Hay, Straw as building materials
1 Corinthians 3:13 NKJV
13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.

This
1 Corinthians 3:14 NKJV
14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.
1 cor 3
If it endures the fire a reward will be had.
1 Corinthians 3:15 NKJV
15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
If the material built with is burnt there will not only be no reward but a loss.
How you build and what you build out of is of extreme importance. This applies to not only the Church but to our family structure, our jobs, our friends, etc.

V16-17: God Will Protect His Building

1 Corinthians 3:16–17 NKJV
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
1 Corinthians 3:16 NKJV
16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
Paul then tells them that they are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells within us. To get a good image in our mind of what he is saying we must look at the Temple is setup.
1 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV
17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
to mess up v. — to make a mess of or create disorder in; perhaps with the idea of ruining or making useless by its disorder.
Then Paul tells them that if anyone corrupts the temple of God, God will corrupt or destroy them.
Holy - pertaining to being dedicated or consecrated to the service of God
Louw, J. P., & Nida, E. A. (1996). Greek-English lexic
We have a purpose and it should be for whatever God would have for us to do.

Conclusion

God as the architect has designed a building, His son Jesus is the foundation, and we are the artisans. We carefully help build up the body (US) making sure that we do so with care and the right materials. Our reward depends on it.
