The Broken Marriage of the Adulteress

Broken marriages as viewed a covenant leaves behind broken hearts and raw feelings, grief as in the loss of a loved one to death is often the result both in the case of Hosea and the Lord.
Isaiah 50:1 NIV
This is what the Lord says: “Where is your mother’s certificate of divorce with which I sent her away? Or to which of my creditors did I sell you? Because of your sins you were sold; because of your transgressions your mother was sent away.
It is obvious from this writing it is the Lord who is speaking but the plight of Hosea is a mirror of How our Lord feels about his people being unfaithful to him. He starts by addressing what can be assumed as the children using the word Mother. What Children though, I would venture to say the next generation of Israel, the offspring who at this point have no choice but to follow the corruption of this generation. One of the things we must realize is that it is the Children that suffer most in any broken marriage.
Many loose the security that belongs to a complete family. they grow separated and lonely, the lack the gentle touch needed from both parents. As we read on in this chapter we will see exactly what the loss of that security and love means.

God States the Charge to Israel.

God

God first and foremost is the Judge so this being a legal contract with certain conditions that must be met or be in breach, God is now holding court on Israel and charging her with Adultery.
Jeremiah 3:6 NIV
During the reign of King Josiah, the Lord said to me, “Have you seen what faithless Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every spreading tree and has committed adultery there.
Jer.3:6
Jeremiah 44:17–18 NIV
We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our ancestors, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm. But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine.”
Jer.44:
As with any couple involved in court proceedings there is the he did this and she did this, and God is stating plainly what Israel is telling him, that it was not God but the other gods they have worshipped that has supplied their needs.
Have you ever found yourself saying the same things? I deserve what I have because I worked hard at my have this because I....... whatever, forgetting that it was God who made possible what you have, you Job, your talent, the breaks the education. And this is what Israel has done.
Here’s what you will find is the biggest reason marriages fail, it’s communication, Israel forgot God. They were more interested in what they saw and felt than in obedience to God and giving him the credit. How many times have you heard someone say I prayed to God but he hasn’t answered so I stopped? It may not be that God has not answered you may not have been listening, or waiting for God to answer the way you wanted him to answer. We have to pray the way God wants us to pray, then expect an answer and it may not be the way we expect but he will, but if we stop communicating how can we expect to move closer to him and have a greater relationship with him?
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 NIV
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thes 5
1 Thessalonians 5:16–17 NIV
Rejoice always, pray continually,
Ezekiel 16:15–19 NIV
“ ‘But you trusted in your beauty and used your fame to become a prostitute. You lavished your favors on anyone who passed by and your beauty became his. You took some of your garments to make gaudy high places, where you carried on your prostitution. You went to him, and he possessed your beauty. You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them. And you took your embroidered clothes to put on them, and you offered my oil and incense before them. Also the food I provided for you—the flour, olive oil and honey I gave you to eat—you offered as fragrant incense before them. That is what happened, declares the Sovereign Lord.
Eze.

What is it God has given you that you worship more than him? How about our Church what do we worship more than him? Money, gifts, our position, jobs, family, how about our possessions, or our traditions? We can become trapped in the things of this world and never realize it until it is too late. This is where Israel is right now, have you ever forgotten about a real friend due to you schedule and then one day you find out that they passed? That feeling of I didn’t get to; that sinking feeling that we ignored them and now their Gone.
David Jeremiah once said; “We never know how much we have ignored God until one day we really need him and He is not there.” Think about that for a minute, You have a problem you cannot solve so you finally go to God in prayer and nothing, no comfort no ease of mind just empty despair. What a lonely place to be and right now that is where Israel is.

God Passes Judgement on Israel.

First God is going to stop providing the sustenance that Israel has depended on and squandered, he is going to expose her for the vial nation she is.
Ezekiel 16:37 NIV
therefore I am going to gather all your lovers, with whom you found pleasure, those you loved as well as those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around and will strip you in front of them, and they will see you stark naked.
Eze
Israel will now be exposed to those of her enemies, her protection will be gone there will be no sanctuary for her. Look at our world now do you begin to see parallels to Israel? We have taken God’s word and marginalized it we have taken the very things God sees as vile and embraced them. We trivialize his law and live lives not even close to what God has laid out for us. Bigotry, prejudice, sexual immorality, violence is all the work of satan.
Job 21:14 NIV
Yet they say to God, ‘Leave us alone! We have no desire to know your ways.
job
Is this not the attitude of our world today as it was in Hosea’s time?
John 17:14 NIV
I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
The freedom from Religion Foundation, those that refuse to hear about the word of God all want to persecute us for our belief and our faith. The reason is the righteous of the Lord revolts the sin nature of this world. People see things in this world and they see it as proof that hope exists in man, but the reality is we are now seeing how little man can really control in this world.
there once was a man in a sinking boat, he refused help many times he believed that he could go fast enough to bail out his boat before it sank, as the hole began to enlarge the small bucket he had could not get enough water out to keep the boat afloat, a ship came by and offered to pick the man up before it sank but again he refused but instead asked for a bigger bucket. Soon the boat sank and so did this man’s hope.
Romans 12:2 NIV
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Our hope is in Jesus Christ and right now this world we live in is a sinking ship, no amount of human energy is going to keep it afloat. But Jesus came to give everyone hope, no matter what this world does He has set us free. This world may not want to hear the Good news of hope but there are some who do, they are the ones we minister to, they are our mission stop being scared, stop ignoring God, we live a live that is different than this world and people need to see it, let your light shine for all men to see and give Glory to God our Father.
