Introduction
Have you ever made a decision in your life that after looking back you have said, “That wasn’t wise.”
Maybe it was the purchase of a car.
Or maybe it was getting pregnant at such a young age.
Or not going to college or going to college.
Or the person you married.
The job you turned down or the job you took.
That adventure that was a little too adventurous.
Getting hammered on a Saturday night.
What we know is decisions like these and others can really set the course of our lives. Both good and bad.
We have all made unwise decisions and that is just a part of life, and I think that is one of the main reasons we gather here together is to learn to walk in wisdom.
All through the Bible God is teaching us the need to walk in wisdom.
When King David’s son Solomon took the thrown, God granted him one wish. He could choose anything that he wanted. And he chose wisdom. That God would teach him how do conduct hisself as he lead the people of Isreal.
This request was so impressive to God that he granted him victory over his enemies and riches untold. Because of wisdom Solomon had it all.
One of the key elements in anyone’s life is to learn to walking in wisdom. From a very young age we begin to teach our kids the things they will need to know to make wise choices in their life.
My biggest frustration in the ministry is watching people make unwise decisions that are going to heavily impact their life and possibly generations to come.
So how do we make wise decisions in our lives?
This is a tough question because their are two types of wisdom. There is the wisdom of this world, and there is wisdom from above.
To be wise is the ability to see past the decision, foresee the outcomes, and make your decision based on things that haven’t happened yet.
Therefore wisdom deals with a course of action.
A way in which a person might go.
A path a person might choose.
Wisdom is always seen or fleshed out.
Today I want to talk to you about how you can distinguish from earthly wisdom and wisdom from above.
Once we understand the difference we can begin to seek after the hidden wisdom from God and avoid the traps and snares offered by the wisdom of the world.
Sermon Body

Wisdom Begins with Christ

1 Corinthians 2:1–3 ESV
1 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling,
1 Corinthians 2:4–5 ESV
4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
1 Cor 2
Wisdom from above is more than just a good set of rules. It is spiritual in nature and must be received by spiritual beings.
The first message Paul gives is not how to walk in wisdom but You must be born again.
If you are here this morning and you have not yet received Christ as your Lord and savior then the wises decision you will ever make is to receive the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and become a child of God.
Once you become a follower of Christ the rest of this will start to make sense.

Trade in Earthly Wisdom for Heavenly Wisdom.

1 Corinthians 2:6–7 ESV
6 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. 7 But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory.
1 Cor 2:

Defining Heavenly Wisdom

Heavenly wisdom is not of this world
Proverbs 8:22–24 ESV
22 “The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old. 23 Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. 24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water.
Prov 8:22
Proverbs 8:25–27 ESV
25 Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth, 26 before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world. 27 When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
Proverbs 8:28–29 ESV
28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, 29 when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
Proverbs 8:28–31 ESV
28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, 29 when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, 30 then I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, 31 rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man.
Proverbs 8:28-
Proverbs 8:30–31 ESV
30 then I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, 31 rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man.
Prov 8:28-
Prov
The Wisdom of God was decreed before the world even existed.
Heavenly wisdom is imparted to the mature believers.
1 Corinthians 2:6 ESV
6 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away.
Heavenly wisdom is hidden from this world.
s world.
1 Corinthians 2:8–9 ESV
8 None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—
1 Cor 2:8
The rulers of this world refer to the demonic forces that are controlling the course of this world.
In hind sight the worst move Satan ever made was killing Jesus Christ because through his death and resurrection many have been reconciled to God.
Heavenly wisdom is revealed only through the Spirit of God.
1 Corinthians 2:10 ESV
10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
1 Cor
The Spirit reveals the deep things from God.
The Spirit reveals the mind of God.
Isaiah 55:8–9 ESV
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Is 55:
Heavenly wisdom is different from this world.
James 3:17–18 ESV
17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
James 3:17

Defining Worldly Wisdom

James 3:13–14 ESV
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.
James 3:13
James 3:15–16 ESV
15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
Jame 3:
Examples of Worldly Wisdom
Look out for myself first and foremost.
In Marriage: try it before you buy it.
Success is determined by my wealth.
Relationships are leverage for personal gain.
Defend my position at all costs.
Happiness is produced by pleasurable experiences.
Love is a feeling based on my needs and desires.
Give to others out of my excess regardless of the real need.
Time is money!
Sacrifice is a sign of weakness and defeat.

Walking in Wisdom from above

1 Corinthians 2:12–13 ESV
12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
1 Cor 2:12-13
4 Steps for the Mature Believer
We receive knowledge from the Spirit of truth.
We are given understanding about the hidden wisdom of God.
We impart the hidden wisdom in words taught by the Spirit.
We interpret spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
1 Corinthians 2:14 ESV
14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
The natural person is not so.
The natural person doesn’t accept heavenly wisdom.
The natural person thinks it foolish.
The natural person doesn’t understand.
Romans 1:22–23 ESV
22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
Romans 1:
Romans 1:24–25 ESV
24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

Worldly wisdom leads to foolish decisions that cause broken lives and failed relationships.

Conclusion
So how do we move from the natural to the spiritual?
You must receive the Spirit of God through the Jesus Christ. You must be born again.
You must mature to understand the difference between earthly wisdom and Godly wisdom.
You must walk in the mind of Christ.
1 cor 2:15
1 Corinthians 2:15–16 ESV
15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Aren’t you tired of being duped by devilish wisdom?
Christians, are you tired of walking in the wisdom of this world?
It’s time to experience the hidden wisdom of God.
The true wisdom that only comes from God.
We have the mind of Christ.
