INTRODUCTION
The spirit of Laodicea is written everywhere in this modern world.
self-expression is all over the Internet
everyone wants to do their thing without anyone minding them
But many people don’t understand the concept of liberty - even Christians!
Example - when President Abe Lincoln signed the “emancipation” - the law declaring all black in the U.S. free, most of them did not know how to handle their freedom.
they thought they are no longer bound to come to church at the right time
they thought are no longer bound to obey the 10 commandments
the thought they are free to do as they please, express their thoughts as they please, etc.
they thought they are no longer bound to fulfill their financial obligations (pledges, tithes, utang, etc)
Definitions
Liberty - grk. eleutheria, free, unhidered, independent.
The word describes a person who is free of obligations, restrictions, or slavery.
Law - grk. nomos, the body of established principles and rules
nomos comes from nemo, to assign, distribute
commandment refers to the specific law, while law refers to the whole
Law of Liberty - is the body of principles governing liberty as assigned by God
Illustration: The Philippine Constitution - defines our liberty, protects our liberty, governs our practice of liberty.
Our main points in this message are:
If you are in Christ, you are truly free!
Liberty is a means to an end
As a free person, your life in Christ is governed by the law of liberty
Our liberty has corresponding responsibilities
Main Points
It is the law of the Spirit of life
It is the law of the Spirit of life
It is the working of the Holy Spirit in us
the law of sin and death says “if you sin you die”
the law of the Spirit of life says “if you receive the Holy Spirit you live”
Now, since we cannot receive the Holy Spirit because we are sinners, and we are condemned to death because we are sinners, God sent Christ to die for our sins!
The Spirit of God anointed Christ to proclaim the gospel
Jesus taught the gospel of liberty
a sinner is a slave - and will soon be sent away
the son/daughter of God is the free person
the son will abide in the house forever!
The Holy Spirit is the seal of freedom
It is the governing principle of our life in Christ
You are NO LONGER gentiles, idol worshippers, or carnal men and women walking in this life according to the desires of the flesh.
YOU ARE NO LONGER OF THIS WORLD!
YOU ARE a people of God, a holy nation, spirit-filled sons and daughters of God who are heirs of a heavenly kingdom!
YOU NEED A NEW AND DIFFERENT RULE OF LAW TO GUIDE YOUR LIFE.
GOD GIVES YOU THE LAW OF THE LIBERTY!
1.
Because you have the Holy Spirit, you are no longer bound to sin!
You are forgiven
You are justified
2. Because you have the Holy Spirit, you have access to a realm (place) beyond and above the restrictions or limitations of the flesh!
You can see the glory of the Lord!
You can learn and understand the things from God
You have authority over demons to cast them out - just like Jesus!
3.
Because you have the Holy Spirit, you are not forced to obey the commandments of God.
Rather, you freely obey what is right.
You are not bound to the Law
You use your liberty in service
4. Because you have the Holy Spirit, you are responsible and accountable for your actions.
when we hear but don’t obey, we deceive ourselves
hearing and not doing is like forgetting what we saw in the mirror
BLESSED is the person who is fully aware of God’s will, and fulfills them willingly, doing what is right and good before God and man.
We break the law of liberty when we do not take full responsibility for our own actions:
like Adam and Eve - blaming others for their problems
like Cain - ignoring his responsibility as a brother
God rewards all our actions
It is perfect
Perfect - means “complete, mature, having reaches its end”
1.
The law of liberty is complete, sufficient, comprehensive.
You won’t need any other law or rule to govern your life with.

The Bible

It
