What observations did we make?
We should begin our study of the scriptures by asking some critical questions? Who, What, When, Why, Where and How. Some Examples.
Who is writing? John the apostle x
Who is this being written to? Likely Jewish Christians who affirmed Jesus as the God of Israelx
Where was the author when this was written: Probably at Ephesus
Where were the readers:
When was this written? approximately 85 A.D. x
Why was this book written ? (john 20:30-1)
What are the themes of this books? x
Jesus perfection/Jesus is God x
7 signs (miracles) to demonstrate His divinity x

Where was the author when He was writing this?
Where was his audience when this was written?
Who is “the Word”? x
When was “the Word”? x
What did “the Word” do? x
How is “the Word” described here?
Why dies the author use “the Word” instead of His proper name?
How do we know that “the Word” refers to Jesus?
How can we apply this passage to our lives?
