Why Remain: A Battle for the Affections of Man

With so many choices by which to live your life, why chose the Historical Jesus?
You can chose a more ethnically appealing Faith.
You can choose a more financially beneficial Faith. A Prosperity Savior
You can choose a faith and become a god.

He Has Invested in You

1 John 2:27 NASB95
As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
What is the Anointing?
Cross, F. L., & Livingstone, E. A. (Eds.). (2005). In The Oxford dictionary of the Christian Church (3rd ed. rev., p. 73). Oxford; New York: Oxford University Press.
How does it teach?

1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,

Because the LORD has anointed me

To bring good news to the cafflicted;

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to captives

And freedom to prisoners;

A ceremonial action performed on persons and things to separate them from profane use and obtain on their behalf the infusion of Divine grace.

1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,

Because the LORD has anointed me

To bring good news to the cafflicted;

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to captives

And freedom to prisoners;

13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

The Anointing Remains in You
The Anointing Guards Against Deception
Refutes the all truth is God’s truth theory
So Abide in Him

In Him is True Freedom

A ceremonial action performed on persons and things to separate them from profane use and obtain on their behalf the infusion of Divine grace.

21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God,

22 who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge

13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come

He Gives Confidence

1 John 2:28 NASB95
Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
1 John 2:
He Will Appear
It seems His divine essence and nature will be obvious and will cause some to shrink in shame. But if you have remained there wont be shame but confidence at His appearing.
A painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior.
This is the moment when false hope will be exposed. When those faking it wont be making it. When your profession must align with your affections.

22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

He’s Infectious

1 John 2:29 NASB95
If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.
Jesus changes lives
We are not perfect, but we are being perfected.

4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love
