Continuing the theme from ch.5, ch.6 addresses those whose life goal is to satiate their own “appetite.” Whether for literal, fine food, or for many other pursuits, the common cries are “more,” “better,” “bigger”: this, the author states, is “vanity.” Life, and everything in it, will come to an end—thus will whatever blessings accumulated during that life will come to an end as well. So the right view of a “good life” starts with sights set on our eternal life, which drives us toward contentment in our temporary life.
